they all meet in the semi final then.
The public want all-Premier League semi-finals. They donât want diddy clubs from the loser continental leagues like Spain, Germany, France and Italy in there messing things up.
I suppose the idea is that they wouldnât it would be more of a mix but it has been that way the last while alright.
Youâd imagine thereâll be at least 3 English teams in the next round.
Madrid is a worse draw than PSG for utd.
Ah it would have been fun to watch Mbappe, Neymar and Messi vs Maguire though
Thereâs no draw for a final.
how can the officials be instructed who to draw in a random pick?
Whoops
Think itâs more to with how certain teams canât face each other and how that flows through the rest of the draw. Liverpool couldnât face Villareal because that would mean Inter would be left with either Juve or Real Madrid who they were already in a group with. Cogged from the BBC.
Atletico have been poor enough by their standards this season. That said they have time to sort themselves out before they play United. Still a cunt of a side to play against.
Well thatâs it⌠Theyâre an absolute cunt of a team to play against. PSG have some dangerous players but you largely know what youâre getting and they concede. The other crowd are physical, very solid and when they need to can play some great technical football but they are also absolute cunts to a man.
To keep tv audiences from as many different countries interested for as long as possible for the purposes of maximising revenue?
so back load it and have nobody interested in the semi final and final? 5 out of the last 8 finals have been contested by teams from the same league. (bag of a fag packet calculations)
If you wanted to do that youâd have teams from the same countries playing each other in the last 16/quarter-finals to ensure as wide a geographical spread as possible in the semi-finals.
Barca looked odds on on for another treble in early May after the 3-0 victory over Liverpool in the 1st leg. They had the league won and Valencia waiting in the Copa Del Rey final. Nobody was describing them as a fallen giant at the time. A lot of revisionism there. Bayern were underperforming under Kovac alright but won the Champions League again the very next year after changing manager.
Itâs always been that way. Canât meet until the quarter-final stages. Applies for every league. Bohs and Shamrock Rovers couldnât meet until the quarters if they were in it.
There was one exception in 2005/06 when Liverpool and Chelsea were drawn in the one champions league group after England had 5 entrants into the competition. Of course Everton didnât even make it to the group after defeat to Villarreal so it seems strange that they were in the one group.
*Actually did I see before that Liverpool and Forest met early in the European Cup when it was straight knockout back in the late 1970âs?
Apologies. I meant the big countries. Brain slightly frazzled. Think the big countries pushed for the last expansion and the more teams they get through the better for them financially.
