Champions League 2022/23 Matchday One (its a grand old team to play for)

I am hoping there will be wins for Ajax of Amsterdam and Napoli of Naples this evening

Is there a round of games tonight also? Who’s playing?

Any chance of Haaland worrying Ronaldo’s goal record in champions league?

As sure as night follows day.

I didn’t want to stick the boot in when you’re down but twas like watching 11 TAAs waving Madrid through for the goals ladt night. Good to see you’re not one of those nodding donkeys that lap up that shite from Kroos.

That’s a lovely tweet from Toni

Would you sign for them Toni? Playing arbroath Hamiltons in January would be a great way to end your career

The second goal was a bit messy from Celtic’s point of view but the first and third goals were sheer class. Bar Juranovic taking one step too far inside to cover Carvajal’s run and thus allowing the ball to be played around him to Vinicius, I don’t think Celtic did anything wrong for the first goal. A shit load of passes for the last one alright and you can argue that someone should have booted some cunt up in the air during the build up but the passing and movement was excellent. Celtic looked like a proper modern team throughout and had plenty of good/very good chances to take the lead. It was a very enjoyable match indeed and I think Celtic fans are rightly excited about the squad Postecoglou’s building and the way the team plays. Need to back it up against Shakhtar in Warsaw next week now.

Ye have a decent manager in charge at last. If he had the resources some of his predecessors had then they could do damage. You’d hope they kept some of the powder dry for the other 2 teams.

I think we’ll need to win at the Bernebeu in matchday 6 to win the group, but we should be already through after matchday 4.

Hopefully the lessons learned from the chipper in Gibraltar will stand ye in good stead should you need a win in nearby Madrid.

He’s lovely to watch on the ball, every movement so timed and technical

More head patting for Paddy

What did you think of lenz last night pal ? He done a great tackle in second half but thought he looked all
over the place at times and seemed to tuck in too near to carter vickers a lot too …

here we go, after 12 months trolling starfelt, @Bisto has a new target for this season

I thought Jens/Lens/Lenz was okay. He was a bit unfortunate for the second goal, as he got back to make a tackle on Modric but the ball broke back to Modric to finish. Didn’t really notice him being badly out of position.

Looked very comfortable and composed on the ball to me. That back four unit will only improve the more they play together at this level

A few lovely words there from Toni Kroos.
