Champions League Final Thread

6ā€¦

Would Spurs not have been better using some of the players they paid more than Ā£150m for that were on the bench tonight? Have a Champions League finalist ever before had a bench that cost far more than their starting 11?
The one positive from tonight for Spurs fans is they donā€™t have to worry about any big clubs coming in for their ā€˜starsā€™ this summer like Alli or Kane.

Dele Ali. Liverpool reject.

Our boys died with their boots on tonight. Coach Pochettino has over achieved with the resources he has at his disposal.

Alli Alli Alli

Never before in professional sport have I seen a team seem so happy just to be there on the big day, no ambition whatsoever to win it. Even the decision to start Kane, his performance suggested it was something the Make A Wish Foundation arranged.

We brought on Lucas Moura (a Ā£25m signing off the bench) he had our best chance of the night and missed it. When the excellent Harry Winks (academy graduate) just returned from groin surgery ran out of puff, he was replaced by Eric Dier (Ā£4 million signing) and Fernando Llorente (Ā£15 million signing) replaced Bamidele. Teams are constrained by only being allowed to start 11 players and then bring on a designated number of substitutes.

Some seriously rattled lads here tonight

@GeoffreyBoycott not among them

That estrella galicia is a nice beer.

Christ, that post was just about as boring as the match itself

Would Ā£42m Sanchez have closed down Sane quicker, or Ā£30m Lamela have offered some sort of attacking threat rather than a man whose only idea to get on the score sheet was again to throw himself to the ground in the penalty area? Iā€™m sure you are bitterly disappointed at the inept showing of your club Geoff but pleading poverty when your bench cost in excess of Ā£150m doesnā€™t really make sense.

I donā€™t believe so. The team that started tonight is our strongest starting XI. Davinson Sanchez has had a very poor second season after a promising enough debut season and you could not have countenanced starting him or even giving him any match time tonight. Erik Lamela, weā€™re just stuck with forever it would seem after 6 years, nobody will touch him. Lamela makes Darren ā€˜Sick Noteā€™ Anderton look the picture of durability. The Ā£42 million (out of the Ā£50 million Kyle Walker proceeds) spent on Sanchez is I believe the only time, the club has spent over Ā£30 million on a player. We just donā€™t have the financial muscle to go out and buy the Ā£60/70/80 million finished product player that the elite coterie of super franchise like the two Manchesters and Chelsea have. Short of hitting the absolute jackpot with an academy graduate, thatā€™s what we need to step up to the next level.

Liverpool donā€™t have the financial muscle of the three super franchises Iā€™ve mentioned but whatā€™s turned Liverpool into the force that theyā€™ve been this season is the Ā£55 million and Ā£75 million they spent on the goalkeeper and Van Dijk. That was only made possible by the masterstroke of completely mugging off Barcelona with Coutinho. If Liverpool were stuck with any of the cast of goalkeepers they had last season tonight, Spurs would probably have won that match. Alisson pulled off some very smart saves.

I very rarely watch Man U play but if youā€™re lashing out Ā£70/80/100 million (sterling) like they routinely do on players and the wages that they pay, should be getting finished product players for that kind of money.
