If ever a result flattered a team it was tonights game,Juventus were blessed to get the win in fairness but Celtics tank was empty after all the donkey work in the first hour.Ambrose should be shipped back to Nigeria useless cunt!
We looked capable of scoring on several occasions in the first half in particular. And though our performance level dropped as the game progressed, Ambrose missed an absolutely gilt edged chance in the second half at 0-1. So to state we never looked like scoring is incorrect.
Like you, I watch Juve regularly and I think youâre giving them too much credit for their game management tonight. That was a
I donât think we looked capable of scoring. The Ambrose header was the only real chance Celtic had in the game. Commons came close with what would have been an outrageous goal with the overhead kick in the first half but apart from that it was all long range efforts that Buffon took comfortably. Juventus dealt with all the crosses and corners at ease. They never once looked panicked or flustered tonight, they always looked in control. We had a control in a midfield sector but we didnât create chances, if we had someone in the box who could make some intelligent runs or be effective with his back to goals or be an aerial threat then we might have looked capable but we didnât and in the end we didnât look like scoring either.
he made a lung/gut busting run alright but critically stopped on his heels and allowed a gap for the flick to be made. He sure as shit shouldnt have allowed Marchisio to turn him in the box like a non league player after it either.
I remember Brown being out on his feet routinely when they last played in the Champions League. His is the epitome of what is wrong with British midfielders.
Juventus were distinctly average all night. 2 of their 3 goals were down to piss poor individual defending from Ambrose. The plucky Scots had better chances arguably and better attacking play.
Hooper was shite but if Anthony Stokes just back from injury was the answerâŚ
The mong from the north has previously wanted Lawwell, Lennon and now Hooper out.
have you ever played a game of anything in your life ??..try running full speed after someone when you´re already out on your feet and then try to stop instantlyâŚyou pick a point and run for it, hoping its where the lad with the ball is heading forâŚhave you ever noticed when a defender turns to run after a player beats the offside trapâŚthe defender heads for a spot between the player and his path to goal??.its called a last-ditch tackle for a reasonâŚyour making one last desperate attemptâŚby your logic he should run directly behind the player regardless of what direction he´s headingâŚ
this is really basic stuff ladâŚ
buffon is different classâŚhe makes it look so easy âŚalways seems to take a step in right direction just before the shot is taken so his full body is behind the ballâŚand he´s so quick off his line anticipating the ball over the topâŚstill best keeper in the world IMHOâŚ
Tactically, Celtic did pretty much everything that could be asked of them â they pressed Pirlo early on, dominated the midfield against one of the best trios in Europe, and created half-chances from range, and clear chances from set-pieces. The opening goal was the killer â it meant that Celtic had to keep pushing to get back in the tie. Itâs all hypothetical, of course, but had Wilson covered better for the first goal, and Wanyama or Ambrose buried their header, Celtic probably wouldnât have looked quite so lame in the final stages as they would have been able to sit deeper.

thought wanyama was the dominant force in midfield first half especiallyâŚsome presenceâŚgets on the ball and wins it back so easilyâŚi´d say United will go in for him in summerâŚhe´s exactly what they needâŚ
You donât think we looked like scoring when Ambrose put his head on that ball in the middle of the goal, unchallenged, from 5/6 yards out?
I donât think creating one good chance in the entire game for a side who had as much of the game as we did said we looked liked scoring. There was no penalty box scrambles, not great saves, no goal line clearances, no shots off the post or bar, no real close calls. We played well but we never really had Juventus worried, they handled our aerial threat really well and we never got any clear cut opportunities bar the Ambrose header.
The Wanyama header near the end of the first half was almost as good a chance as the Ambrose one. The Commons half volley wasnât a bad chance either. Iâm not sure how many chances you thought we should be creating against Juventus but we did enough to win that game, we were let down by a dreadful individual error and then tired legs after chasing the game.
Quite similar to last nightâs game between Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion in that the team who did all the attacking lost due to poor defending and sucker punch goals. Celticâs performance was far superior to Liverpoolâs though.
I think for how much of the game we had we should have created more than one decent opportunity. We created four or five great opportunities against Barcelona with a fraction of the play we had this evening. Tonight we created one despite seeming to be on top in midfield.
i thought juve actually struggled to properly clear a lot of crossesâŚthey might have made contact but an awful amount of ball broke outside their penalty box or went clean across the box that just didn´t break for a celtic playerâŚ
Juve certainly did not defend comfortably in the first half.
Neil Lennon got his tactics spot on but, unfortunately, his personnel decisions wrong. He obviously wanted pace/recovery pace at the back with us playing a high tempo, hard pressing, high defensive line with space in behind.
Thatâs one of Ambroseâs main attributes but I felt Lustig could have covered that and Matthews at right back wouldnât have weakened us.
Neil Lennon has been very tactically astute in Europe in his managerial reign thus far.

Indeed. Actually thought Matthews was poor when he came on, bar one good run, but Iâd have started him. That said I wouldnât have played Izzy and he was very good. The Ambrose call didnât work out. The Forrest one didnât really either but that was really undone by the opening goal because they played so deep then.
If Madrid donât win by 3 goals tonight football is even more corrupt than the latest match fixing report would have us believe. Alonso x 2, Arbeloa x 1.
