Good to have the CL back
I have had to work for the last 3 months and that combined with following Beitar Jerusalem, not to mention the massive issues in Beitar at the moment after we signed 2 guys from Terek Grozny , see my summary in the Israeli league thread later , watching the african nations cup and my own sporting involvement have curtailed my posting.
Now I have some time to contribute again which is nice for all of us.
I watched Valencia â PSG tonight, it was a decent game of ball with PSG streets ahead , lavezzi is a lovely footballer and I really enjoyed watching PSG, they will have a big say in the businesss end of this thing I feel as totti rightly pointed out earlier in the year.
Depending on herself, I might try and watch the celtic game later, disappointing result but surely not suprising, celtic have spent the last 2 months scrapping against the like of inverness and loosing to st.mirren in prepration for this game and really playing utterly meaningless games in a dead , non competitive league, Juve have had a nice break and played Milan in the Coppa Italia amoungst other teams of a slightly different standard⌠whatever momentum celtic built up in October November from playing top class opposition was surely destroyed by going to the likes of Iverness on a Saturday morning in janauary for a pointless game.
I see lads here are talking about Ambrose, I guess playing Burkina faso is not really at the same level as the CL, anyway⌠ill be delighted if someone can tell me how Rami Gershon was not involved tonight, this guy is decent, played for standard liege, regular for Israel and lennon picks fucking ambrose over himâŚ. Fuck me , that âs a crime
On another note it was upsetting to see Celtic fans sing Youâll never walk alone at the Juve fans tonight to remind them of Heysel, I know there was all this shit about the crowd intimidating Juve, as if there is not enough hostility in Italian football but this was a step too far
can someone please answer my question regarding Rami Gershon? - thanks
very much looking forward to Shaktar - Dortmund tonight
its deep midwinter in eastern ukraine but that old romanian bloke whose name escapes me should be crafty enoough to get shaktar prepared and up for this.
i just cant seem to develope an interest in the madrid - united game at all, not sure why, maybe its just familiarity breeding a sense of boredom or something but i have a feeling that this game will be awful⌠ill throw a few bob on united tonight anyhow for what its worth and also to win 1-0

Itâs probably because youâre an achingly cool football hipster. And a desperate attention seeking cunt
he just firmly hit the nail on the head regarding Mickee4by2âs fondness for third world football matches which nobody else watches so his opinion is gospelâŚ*
*he was spot on about Efi Ambrose in fairness to the Queenstown exileâŚ
From what I saw last night the Celtic guy wanted to stand beside the Juve goalie but the Juve goalie didnât want that so another Juve player stood beside the Celtic player stopping him standing beside the Juve goalie but the Celtic player (and supporters) felt they should choose who to stand beside and felt aggrieved that the ref didnât favour their oafish tactic over JuveA.D.
Essentially this was a soccer ball version of the Lar/Tommy Walsh thing that got lots of rural types in a lather a couple of months ago?
Juve certainly did not defend comfortably in the first half.
Neil Lennon got his tactics spot on but, unfortunately, his personnel decisions wrong. He obviously wanted pace/recovery pace at the back with us playing a high tempo, hard pressing, high defensive line with space in behind.
Thatâs one of Ambroseâs main attributes but I felt Lustig could have covered that and Matthews at right back wouldnât have weakened us.
Neil Lennon has been very tactically astute in Europe in his managerial reign thus far.
They defended comfortably even with Gary Hooper âoccupyingâ them.
No, they didnât. They had numerous panicked clearances and constantly coughed up the ball deep inside their own half. Commons in particular caused them lots of problems.

Nothing panicked about it, what went into the box came out of the box, there were no last ditch tackles or mistakes made in the Juventus box. Buffon didnât have to make any decent saves and Celtic only forced one decent chance in the 90 minutes. It was bread and butter for Juventus.
They were clearly rattled. For example, the clearances to the edge of the box for crisp Wanyama and Commons efforts were very poor and symptomatic of the fact that were penned in and wavering. For the majority of the first half, they coughed up possession inside their own half as they were made very uncomfortable by Celticâs high intensity pressing. I suggest you watch the game again as your reading of it has been wholly inaccurate.
People who are rattled fold. Juventus were not rattled they were in control. My reading of the game is accurate and insightful. I said Juventus defended comfortably - clean sheet, no last ditch tackling, no close calls, no great saves, no defenders having to swarm and throw their bodies on the line. They were organised and dominant in defence and Celtic never looked like scoring. It was a very classy performance by Juventus, Celtic tried to force a lot of pressure last night but for all the pressing they did and for all the passing they had they failed to worry Juventus sufficiently.
No, itâs based on the clean sheet end result and not how the play unfolded. They didnât defend comfortably for two clear cut headed chances - one in each half. There were numerous last ditch interventions - Barzagli on Hooper in the first half and on Forrest in the second, both from excellent Lustig crosses. Their first half clearances were scrambled and panicked and resulted in several attempts on goal from Commons and Wanyama. There was also the Scott Brown cross shot that was slashed away in the second half. These werenât instances of comfortable defending. Celtic created more chances last night than in any other Champions League game and were very impressive in the first half in completely unsettling Juventus.
Some of that is ridiculous. The thing is Celtic didnât create chances, they dominated play but looked lost when they go to the final third, they had no focal point in attack (yhink the guy who occupies defenders was meant to be doing this). You are mistaking good defending for uncomfortable defending, Barzagli makes excellent interventions all the time not because his side are under the cosh or uncomfortable but because heâs an excellent defender and he carries out his job as cool as the top cat. The bit about Brownâs cross shot is the most ridiculous bit of all. Barzagli nonchalantly flicks it away with the outside of his boot - he doesnât slash at it. They allowed Celtic on to them because they knew Celtic werenât good enough to break them down. It was bread and butter for these lads, they were at their ease tonight and you are contradicting yourself in your argument. Juventus defend brilliantly, they are excellent tactically and there was no last ditch defending despite your attempts to be creative and disingenuous with the match incidents.
Shots from 30 yards out is not creating chances, it speaks more for the desperation of the side that they are forced into being speculative.
there was a fantastic program about Neil Lennon on sport 5 + here last night before the CL coverage, the lads in the studio love him on the TV here.
they went right thru about the bombs sent to him and one of the presenters came into the studio with a good bless neil lennon t shirt.
the dont particually like juve after buffon wouldnt shake hands with Nir Davidovich before the Mac Haifa / Juve CL game in 2009.
Celtic are liked here as they signed and arab ( kayal) and a jewish guy ( gershon), both spoke if lennon in glowing terms in the program.
Lennon really is an allright sort, i think he was very immature in his early years of management but now i think really he is one decent guys

Speaking of being creative and disingenuous - youâre talking about 30 yard shots, why? Iâm talking about efforts from 18 yards after poor, panicked clearances and other clear cut chances. Those headers were as clear cut as youâre going to get. Look, it doesnât suit a few of your agendas so youâre lying. Fine.
