Champions League - Last 16

Manchester United are defending very comfortably. Ireland’s Jonny Evans especially.

andrew cole vs sunderland in a blue and white united shirt in 1996

Rafael

United are all over the shop defensively especially on the wings. Van Persie came back at the end of the half to win a ball and played it forward to Evra. What the fuck was Evra doing out that far when united were defending.

Madrid have sent a serious amount of balls across the box with no one there. They should be two ahead easily. If they had a drogba type they’d be strolling. I’m not sure what purpose benzema serves.

George Hamilton is consistently mistaking players tonight

I’ve gone for over 4.5 goals @15/8. I think there will be goals this half

Rafael will be sent off if not taken off soon. We are in big trouble at the back. Ozil and Ronaldo moving all over the place. Still reckon we can nick another goal though. 3-2 wouldn’t be a bad result from here at all.

Was this an FA Cup 3rd round replay at Roker Park? I seem to remember Ireland’s Phil Gray giving Sunderland the lead but Manchester United coming back with two late goals to win. A great cup tie which showcased all that is best about the world’s greatest football competition.

i really dont know sid, i had a feelimg united won this game 3-0, either way it was definitly played on a monday night.
the leap from cole was incredicle, cross from the left and cole at the back stick hung in the air before arching his back to head the ball accross the goal

actually it was the 1995-96 season, united had the black away kit in 94-95 when cantona kicked the fan in shelhurst park, i was studying for the junior cert and just before mike ingham was handing over to alan green and listeners to the world service were joining cantona launched into the fan ,
in 95-96 the had the blue and white arrangement that cole was wearing that night in roker

Red card there all day long. Bottler

Utd really taken the game to real in fairness…
Bad call there from the ref…

shit posted on the valentines thread by mistake

where is rooney?

dont think I have ever seen benzema play well. hugely disappointing again tonight. ribery and benzema must be the most overrated footballers going

Pretty sure it was the cup tie then mickee as Sunderland were in Division 1 that season which they went on to win. I think Manchester United had ditched the blue and white kit by the time Sunderland had been promoted and Sunderland in fact won the league fixture at Roker Park in the 96-97 season with little known striker John Mullin bagging himself a couple of goals.

Sunderland went very close to winning at Old Trafford in that drawn FA Cup tie - Steve Agnew scoring a cracking goal to give them the lead live on Sports Stadium on a Saturday afternoon if I remember correctly, which I do.

George Hamilton is wrong to call Ryan Giggs ageless. The long serving Manchester United player is in fact aged 39.

It was Fa cup third round replay. It was the year United did the double. If I remember Scholes played mainly as a forward that year and ended up with 18 goals. It was also the year they changed strip at half time against Southampton at The Dell when 3-0 down. The Dell and Roker Park, two great stadiums.

what a fucking goal by douglas costa

Ah Jaysis. Should be 1-2

Van Persie bottled it there. Think Mourinho really should have changed Varane by now, he looks out of his depth.
