And it wasnāt one of those instances where a commentator sees a player warming up and knows heās about to come on and then slips in a comment saying he thinks it would be a good change to bring him on.
No, his goal in Moscow to eliminate us is very fresh in my mind.
Thought United were very poor in the last 10. Not that they gave up great chances but was surprised at their inability to retain possession. Giggs and Scholes were giving it away regularly. The more theyāre attacked the more vulnerable they look.
Van Gaalās exit may be hurried along now. His stubborn refusal to fix the obvious defensive problems came back to haunt him (again) tonight.
Iām afraid Scholesās days of lasting 90 minutes without looking like heās completely shot at the end of a game are long gone. Weāre probably capable of beating most of the teams left in the competition on a good day, but Barca would absolutely murder us. So many deficiencies in that team. Iāve been saying all year that it would be a miracle if they win the league with that midfield.
Positives: Valencia back, Rooney and Hernandez linking up will together and both playing well, Smalling looked decent again.
Negatives: Centre of midfield went missing second half (again), defensive injury crisis brewing, Wes Orange looked fairly poor and will likely have to play more games due to defensive injury crisis.
Sidenote: How the fuck was Evra not booked??
All good points made. Not much to add to that. The midfield did die in the 2nd half. Scholes cant play 90 minutes anymore. He would have been subbed if Rafa hadnt of got injured. United just have to beat Bolton on Saturday and hope to get a few players back during the international break for the final push to glory.
The fact that Bolton at home is our only game in the next two and a half weeks is another positive. Hopefully some of those muscle injuries at the back will have cleared up by the time of the next game.
Have to give credit to United for digging out a result with a pretty shit team out. Dont think Arsenal would have dug out a result in similar circumstances.
Hernandez has been some signing. He impressed me in the first game he played in the WC. Came on and looked lively. Clinical finisher.
Not sure tactically what United will do. They seemed to have it sussed fairly well last season with Rooney up top and Valencia and Nani out wide. With Hernandez though they will have to move to 442 which sees them overrun in the midfield.
Samuel Etoāo yet again proved his true quality for Inter tonight with one goal and two assists, the one for the winner a fantastic piece of physical bullying centre forward play- first to win the ball, then to hold it up and play a perfect pass for Pandev to finish brilliantly into the top corner. All three Inter goals were top quality, although Etoāoās early goal was slightly offside. Game of the season so far and Leonardo joins Louis van Gaal and Tony Mowbray as the only three managers to turn around a first leg home deficit to win a Champions League tie away from home. Illustrious company indeed.
I didnāt see that much of the Man Utd game but they were shocking bad defending crosses any time I turned it on.
etoāo proved again how superior he is to useless lanky swedeā¦ i think the last week has proved beyond doubt that etoāo is the better footballerā¦
