When Alex Ferguson initially announced that he was going to quit as Manchester United manager in 2002, there was a lot of talk that Martin O’Neill would be appointed to replace him.

If they want a manager who will get them playing more cultured, attractive and attacking football than they currently are, it’s still not too late to appoint him.
