Not sure about the second statement. Inter did their attacking offering in the first leg, and invited Barcelona to break them down, which they ultimately couldn’t do. And had only 10 men.

That’s not really supposed to be a criticism of Inter, it’s more a reaction to how RTÉ are reacting as this being a victory for the art of defending. It was a disappointing result based on tonight’s game. Inter didn’t play much differently from Lyon in Munich - they were just better at it.

As I was saying in the post just above, I’m talking about tonight’s performance only. I didn’t think they offered much and only had the one Chivu shot that was miles wide and Eto’o’s late “half shot” thing. I’ve no problem praising great defence but they’re comparing this to a typical Italian performance and the reality is Italian teams are used to owning the ball and killing the game. Inter didn’t do that. They gambled on what Chelsea gambled on last season. It worked for Inter and it nearly worked for Chelsea. It’s not good football though.

I think the problem is Giles doesn’t believe in tactics and therefore doesn’t believe that teams can play different systems. As bandage says the comparison is ridiculous. Criticise their system by all means but picking the obvious drawback of playing an attacking game and ignoring the fact that it allows them to play that game is retarded.
