Cheltenham-Early thoughts

I think he’s finished and only running at direction of owner

I’ve been watching every supreme for the last ten years and noticed ruby won on vatour, klassical dream and champagne fever in very similar fashion. The three of them Pretty much made all or were in the first 3 anyway for most of the way. I’m not so sure any other jockey would have won the supreme in that fashion bar ruby on those three. He had a unique ability to make horses travel and jump but most of all he was an incredible judge of pace.

I wonder has that impacted willies idea of the ideal supreme horse a little bit. We’ve seen it go badly wrong on getabird and asterion forlongne. I think appreciate it will be another one. Like the three winners I mentioned he will probably be better over further in time and he’ll also race very prominently if not lead in supreme. I think he’ll get done for pace for a finish. Imo he’s more of a ballymore horse.

Cheltenham doesn’t start till the 16th of March this year which is the latest since 2010.

If you look at the going reports it tends to dry up during the week so I’d imagine this means the possibility of good to soft ground is greatly increased for the whole week.

I’m also fairly certain the New Year’s Day meet is ran on the festival course so that being off will mean the ground is in much better condition.

@fenwaypark Skelton confirmed Shan blue isn’t even getting an entry for the old rsa.

They’re surely not going ahead with this thing this year?

Highly unlikely that many Irish horses are going to travel with Boris the Cunts vat payment scheme?

I’d my first ante post single bet on Saint Sam for the fred winter at 12s nrnb.

Imo this is a mad price. Hed been with willie only 3 months which as Patrick said at the time is a very short period to settle in before getting well beat by Zanahiyr in Fairyhouse by 13 lengths. Tony Keenan read out some interesting stats last week on horses switching to willies who’s form tends to be very poor. Imo Saint Sam took a huge step forward at Christmas when being beaten only 6 lengths and would have been much closer if he’d gotten a better ride. I dunno would he ever ever beat zanahiry but he’ll surely get a mark off around 140 now for the Fred winter and be aimed there. He’d be almost certainly be the best horse in the race and could easily go off 3 or 4/1.

I think it’s safer to back it nrnb as there is a possibility he’ll run in the grade one at the Dublin racing festival and end up in the triumph but it’s still a very fair price. Willie bought the holden horse who’ll run in the triumph. I think you’ll be sitting on massive value come the day of the race.

My thoughts that is should not go ahead and if it does it should be behind closed doors.

Why shouldn’t it go ahead? It’ll be behind closed doors. At this moment in time owners can’t even step on a race course in Britain.

What about the VAT that has to be paid on horses coming in from the EU?

They don’t have to pay it.
