No way back for McCarthy?
Cleary only got married last week, heās some martyr for the cause
Twice in the last three years he had thrown toys out of the pram - they are as well off move in without him in the short term.
Pity, very talented.
Smyth could well be a bolter this year, heās been very unlucky with injury the previous two years. A natural inside forward for a team who is lacking in that department, and has 3 or 4 years of S+C behind him now
I think Lohanās M.O is clear at this point - the league will be used to try and get the likes of Smyth, Conneally, Woods, Daithi Lohan and a handful of others who have been there for a few years to take the next step. Iād expect that the main core of 20 will be cycled through the league to keep them ticking over with 8 to 10 starting any given day with 5 or 6 lads given an opportunity to stake a claim.
Might be a year early for Stritch, Eoin McMahon and Moylan but we could unearth 2 or 3 more lads in that 22 to 24 age group bracket we wonāt be far off this year.
Smyth or OāFarrell making an impact would give us something different inside
100% agree there, another one Iād keep an eye on is Ross Hayes. Heās been there for nearly all of Lohans time and he seems to like him. Heās played a lot of centre back for us in early league games and has been on plenty of matchday panels in championship. Wonder if you could see him as a wing back this year to give him a real chance of playing championship. Another one in a similar boat would be Paddy Donnellan, I think hes too small for IC midfield but maybe as a corner back heād have a chance
I donāt think either are inter county quality. Donnellan just isnāt athletic enough for midfield, he is tidy and works hard but always looks like he is going 100 miles an hour yet not at the pitch of things.
I think that Woods, Oran Cahill, Kirwin and OāMeara all have the size and athleticism needed - whether the head and the hurling is there is the question.
Thatās quite a strong Clare team for a Munster League game. They should win easily.
Nightmare for Kirwan, getting stretchered off here. Had 1-2 got and was the standout player up to this point
And I also want to get it on the record that Pat Ryan is an awful annoying cunt of a co-commentator
Only half watching on the phone. Defending for all six goals wasnāt overly hectic. Hopefully Kirwin injury isnāt serious as he had a fine 40 odd minutes. Rodgers was class throughout and Ryan did well at centre back. Good open game considering the cold.
Lanigan at wing back Fintan Fitzgerald had some decent passages of play for limerick.
Presume OāMeara will be involved midweek. Very quick and mobile, can take a score from distance.
Kirwan didnāt move the whole time he was stretched. Hopefully just precaution and that heās back soon. He was going well, scored a cracking goal beforehand, steps aside.
Both sides will be happy enough with the run out. OāNeill canāt hold the middle although he had some lovely cut outs and layed ball off left and right with ease on occasion. Langan beside him is coming. Ahead of Coughlan for championship at least.
OāDĆ”ilaigh did well, was pulled and dragged all day as youād expect down there but did well when he got going. 2-3 from play I had him down for.
Cleary put on a clinic at 3. Heās a lot fitter looking this year, cleaned out OāConnor time and again. Ryan played well at six, sat back a lot and mopped up unopposed too much from a Limerick viewpoint.
Malachyās puckouts werenāt overly great, the movement wasnāt always there admittedly, and he hit a man in space when it presented itself, but a lot were contested.
Good impact off the bench for both sides, Adam English did well and a ridiculous first touch from Peter Casey to split the posts on the swivel.
Fine crowd at it, frozen feet and hands will be my abiding memory of the afternoon.
what was the beef? surely he nearly always starts or comes off the bench?
He needs to be managed, but Lohan doesnāt want the hassle
