THIS COMES WITH A HEALTH WARNIG

Tipp in two weeks time should be a good indication as to where we are at. Thought we were excellent when we committed men to the tackle and the breaks today. Lost count at the number of times we dispossessed Limerick men in possession and how often we seems to win the loose ball on the ground as well. They have been two aspects of our game which have been lacking for a while. But the same indiscipline remains once are backs ran at when 1v1

We also played more direct than normal with varying degrees of success. Good to see us playing NcGrath close to goal again where he really is a handful rather than 70 yards out the field like last year.

With Morey and Browne to come back into the backs and Colin Ryan and Kelly to the forwards between now and June that should strengthen us further. Would like to see Tots and Peter Duggan start in the forwards the next day.

Bobby showed how important Colin Ryan is today. We were very good in patches. Cunningham and o donnell fairly ineffective today.

Thought Oā€™Donnell had a decent second half. His first touch is outstanding but he needs to start taking shots on rather than always trying to take his man on. He doesnā€™t seem comfortable doing that though, its either run at his man or lay it off.

While we still have a lot to work on we look far better than where we were this time last year with a number of players coming into form like Galvin and McGrath who looked utterly disinterested at times last year

Ya I thought galvin looked near his best. Reidy appears to be a serious addition and I thought of brien was excellent today. O donnells first instinct is to put the head down. The defender always knows exactly what he is going to do. He needs to add to his game but his touch could make him a brilliant player.

Canā€™t help thinking this was deliberate

Youā€™d like to think so for the sake of whoever planned it

It was far from a complete performance yesterday but there were a lot of green shoots and reasons for optimism watching it, especially when compared to the performances of this time last year.

Flanagan and Oā€™Brien did themselves no harm. Oā€™Brien did very well for a lad who is only on the panel a month or so and was nothing more than on the periphery of underage panels. There are still question marks about him but he certainly did his chances of more game time no harm and looks a very sticky marker. Pat Oā€™Connor hadnā€™t much to do and next day out against Seamus Callinan will be a real test for him at full back. I thought we were very good when we hunted in packs yesterday and committed men to the tackle. Time and time again we dispossessed Limerick players in possession with some lovely hooks and flicks and also won a lot of dirty ball on the ground which hasnā€™t been the case for the case for the last couple of years.

The negatives were that we are still committing far too many fouls when our backs get isolated 1 v 1 which is still a big concern and our shooting really kept Limerick in the game when we should have been 10+ points ahead going into the closing stages. We also lost our way for 15 minutes or so in the first half with some aimless long balls which the Limerick backs won for the most part uncontested.

Good to see a number of our key players like Dillon, David Mc, Galvin, Conlon & McGrath looking in good form and looking sharp. David Reidy is also developing into an important player for us, he is an excellent linkman. Hopefully his form continues throughout 2016. We are probably keeping some stuff re the gameplan under wraps ahead of the summer and I wouldnā€™t be surprised to see us returning to a bit more of the short stuff against Tipp next day out, although i would be disappointed if this is the case but it strikes me as something Davy would do to get an ā€œedgeā€.

Team for the championship is starting to take shape
Kelly
Dillon-Pat Oā€™Connor-?
Browne-David Mc-Conor Ryan
Galvin-Reidy
Conlon-Ryan
Kelly-?
McGrath-Oā€™Donnell

Morey or Flanagan for the last spot in the backs while the last forward spot could be anyones between Bobby Duggan, Cunningham, Honan, Tots, Peter Duggan, Podge or Shanager depending on who finds form in the coming weeks. Or we could well see Conor Ryan pushed back to midfield with Bugler in at half back or Dillon at wing with two of Flanagan/Morey/Oā€™Brien in the corners. Although I would hope that Conor Ryan is kept in the half back line, he looked a different hurler once moved there.

With Oā€™Brien, Kinnerk and Og Cusack involved you would be confident that our touch and hurling will be pretty sharp come the summer and it was good to see that in spite of all the injuries we have have over the league so far just how much we moved away from Limerick in the 8 weeks or so since we last played them. We still have a lot more improving to do but we look to be on an upward curve, hopefully Davy can be reigned in and the team let hurl.

Feakle/Killenana v Inagh/Kilnamona in the under 21 A final today. 4:30pm throw in.

County board must assume most fans and mentors are civil servant and all players are students

Player-wise they must be, you can be sure both sides have agreed to this timing and fixture otherwise it wouldnā€™t be going ahead. Not the first time this final was played on a Good Friday either iirc.

I played in a couple of 21s matches in good Fridays in April once the clocks changed but never a final.

Tradition used to be that it would start on Paddyā€™s day and final would be May bank holiday weekend.

Oā€™Donnell and David McInerney both out for the remainder of the league. Would be surprised if we managed to beat Tipp next week with the injuries we have.

it will Give other guys a chance. Do we want the league or to get out of the spot light

does Davy still have the clare lads off the drugs?

David reidy injured in club action today.

How bad is it?
