In fairness to Des if you’re trying to explain the travellers to foreigners this is exactly what you’d say.

Throwing around those groundless stereotypes about travellers we’ve all heard. You know the stuff, they’re inbred, all on social welfare but have loads of money to grow around for communions and the like , fighting and feuding that sort of thing.
Also he fell out with Bishop and said Bishop has led him blackballed by promoters in Dublin.

Jesus I hope you’re in the wrong thread. A story like that would only lend credence to the groundless stereotypes Bishop was pedalling to those yanks on that podcast that wound up Mr. Beanz Warde.
Of course they should have to answer as to how they fund it. They have every right to go on a holiday but if someone with a family and no source of income is going to Thailand while the fella next door whose missus is also working can’t afford a weekend in Ballybunion, there have to be questions asked as to where the money is coming from. Even regardless of what happens to the working man there cannot be a justification for such extravagance if you are making no attempt at all to pay your way. Such people have the entire system down to a fine tee.
The reason travelers are not questioned is because they are beyond and form of censure. Even when there are clear criminal antics attributable to them and their drug dealing, news outlets don’t mention anything about their ethnicity. I can think off the top of my head at least five feuds that are going on around the place which have to do with criminal control of the drug trade and robbery. That is never mentioned when you see their defenders on TV or hear them on radio.

yeah you’ve just jumped in there all guns blazing and not knowing what you are replying to. An anecdotal story was put of a man who was getting a council house but was also planning a trip to Thailand. Not a traveller, not that should make any difference. It was also noted that this man works in a job that pays above the average industrial salary. My point being, which you also prove, is that people get awful judgemental over anyone on social welfare or subsidised incomes when they try do nice things or enjoy life, moaning that the “working man” can only afford crap things whilst they live the life of riley. No one knows what way they live, they may have saved for years to try afford a holiday for their family and bar that have no other comforts in life that the poor couple who cant afford Ballybunion might have in her every day life.
The second part of your post has nothing to do with anything I said so work away on your ranting.

But it isn’t really anecdotal, is it? In my work I meet these people all the time, they do actually get to go on holidays more than there working neighbours. That narrative may not suit you because its anecdotal but only because you can’t put a name to the story however the reality is that such stories are real.
I think I made it clear that everyone deserves a holiday.
This thread is about travelers, hence my reference to them.
