A lot of them would be fine . From my experience in certain counties they tend to be fairly well respected .
I never met a golf playing one but they have some serious Hurlers amongst them and they love the game.
Hurling is the universal leveller. I never met a fella who doesn’t love it

There is a Facebook page for old photos to be posted up related to my home town.
Just this morning a frequent poster put up a picture of an old traveller couple from many years ago,
The amount of positive comments about them was huge. In fact it appears that they regularly drank in pubs around the town and were remembered very fondly.
I don’t know what has gone wrong since then.

The explosion in the population identifying as “travelers” has probably muddied the waters.
In the past the travellers moved from town to town on almost a set route. So they would come into an area for a month and then move on again, and would become a feature of life in the area without any real impact.
That’s pretty much what happened in my own town. An traveller couple came to the town about 60 years ago, a local fella gave them a bit of land to put a caravan in. Their children (10 or 12 of them) grew up in the town, played sports, drank in the pubs and I’d often have a pint with that generation myself.
They all got housed by council together and the families started growing becoming more and more lawless with every generation, to the point now where they would be regarded as one of the most dangerous criminal families in West Limerick.

This thread is worth following for the call-out videos but there’s a lot of unrestrained, unwitty, lazy hate that drags it down.
Youre an interesting poster on it. Inrememner your post about his there was part of you that would gladly burn down the caravans of whoever broke your nose/jaw that time but you know far more about real travellers than anyone else here, except for maybe @hbv who had a tinker grandmother himself.
