the referee made a fook of the football game. bad and all as it is to watch after hurling, him blowing the whistle so he could be seen on TV made shite of it. his bullshit interference in the first 15 minutes set the tone for the rest of the game. blowing for handpasses, steps, touching ball on the ground, merest of contact etc. majority of these werent even fouls, and if they were, letting it flow would have made it better. KIB shat themselves anyway, they were content to sit back and defend deep rather than try win it.
yeah, great for wexford folk alright that Joe can be marked out of a game alright. sure 12 points is nothing.
Yeah the ref was a fussy fucker alright. No impact on the result but it did have an impact on the spectacle.
Galls even showed signs of vulnerability in the second half when they got sloppy again, as they’ve done in previous rounds. KIB just weren’t anywhere near competitive enough to take advantage.
I didn’t think he was outstanding or anything, but most of the calls were right. Its up to the teams to be able to perform the basic skills. It would be way way worse if he let blatent technical fouls go. Ye are the same fellas who complain about too much and passing, and they are “only throwing the ball these days”. Can’t have it everyway. The nerves of the players, and maybe once or twice good pressure from the defenders and just poor skill and lack of options was the main reason for the fuck ups.
What ever happened to kicking the ball into space for the forwards. KIB looked over coached, brilliant coming out of defence at times, and some great blocking and goal keeping, but nobody was willing to kick a long ball into space, they were looking for the perfect pass too much, thus letting Galls get back in numbers. Kick it into space and let the corner forward run for it. The KIB No.14 was one of the most toothless forwards i’ve ever seen at this level.
Overall Galls were a more experieced and athletic team, but they had 4 guys who could kick a point, KIB only really had one threatening.
Agree with most of whats said about the game, it ws poor, but lets blame the teams, not the ref for this one. Remember most of the technical fouls came from the winners, tells ou alot about this game.
the muck and dirt from october to february will suit the likes of kilmurray who are fit and hardworking but come paddys day in Croke park their inability to do the basics will be exposed 9 times out of 10…
Not really having that now scum. they were outclassed yesterday, and done a fair few shite things, but they destroyed a handy if ill disciplined Portlaoise team in the semi, in perfect weather and pitch in Limerick.
I think a few of their forwards shat the course, and as well as that they seemed stunned someone was outplaying O’ Dwyer.
St. Galls would have beaten Portlaoise as well though, and are one of the strongest club winners in a while, since Nemo in '03 or Crossmaglen of '05.
the handpass he blew against Mcgourty was not a foul handpass. same goes for the wing forward, who faked a handpass, you can do what you like with the ball as long as your hands dont leave it, the ref blew for fouling the ball, wrong call. the steps he blew 3 times I think, and in all the cases, the ball had been let off as he blew, and they were all very very marginal, not at all blatant. and I dont complain about too much handpassing, if its done right. handpass out of defence, long ball into space inside. I thought the ref blew for some really small fouls too, realistaically if he didnt blow for any of the frees he did early on, no one would have noticed a thing. he probably has the ‘technical’ reason to blow for them all as an escape clause, but I felt he was whistle happy and set the pace early on.
I’d have to look at it again, but the handpasses to me were fouls. The player had both hands touching the ball, and it was after a bounce so he either had to drop it onto his foot or release. The steps thing is another story. If refs actually counted steps, then every game in every field of ireland would be ruined, so i see your point here. Each one of the St. Galls one though hit 5 or 6 steps, so its hard to fault the ref, but i think what gets a fella more is dithering on the ball, which happened in these cases, a ref nearly always blows then. If your going through a tackle or just running in open space they hardly ever blow at 5 or even 6.
The one thing he left go a few times, and blew other times is the ball off the ground, this is becoming very frustrating to play with these days. Every ref is different, and almost every ref to a man is inconsistent.
yeah the off the ground thing gets me too. for the sake off flow in a game, a rolling ball should be able to come straight off the ground, but that would need a rule change. nothing worse than refs giving a free against a slightly bouncing ball. I remember one match a ref was calling me up on it the whole time, even tho after the first one, I made sure the ball was in the air before I picked it up. last straw came when I was running towards the ball and slid in and let it roll up my knees into my chest before touching it with my hands the way James McCartan made famous, and he gave a free against that too. was fit to hit the cunt.
for flow of a game tho, small technical fouls in handpass, and 5 or 6 steps should let the game run. as you say, if the 4 step rule was strictly adhered to, it would be farcical.
Would you change it to 5 or 6 and then get technical about it? Or is that just asking for more trouble. It would lead to all sorts of problems at underage, stronger guys would do even more wreck.
I don’t know who was disagreeing with you, i certainly wasn’t. I was hoping KIB would do it, but knew they were outsiders. Think that was somewhat of a general consensus.
We’re getting a bus up and staying around for a few pints so make sure ye throw a few sandwiches and cocktail sausages on. We are also missing half our first team so take it handy on us.
