Well, it’s getting near that dreaded time of the year again.
When are clubs heading back training? I think we are aiming for the middle of February but both our football and hurling clubs have had their plans scuppered by the directive from Croke Park that full time GAA Development Officers are not allowed be involved with clubs other than their own.
This is a balls for us as both the hurling and football coaches are Development officers. We are not sure where we stand at the moment, it would be a disaster if we lost the football coach.

Its a fucking joke what they are doing. Its no different to the huge amount of cops and the likes that train teams.
The GAA do alot of things that i suspect are against all sorts of EU law. The jersey thing for one i know is a load of shite.
We;re back 3 weeks now, going very well with new trainer, he knows his shit and despite loosing sunday gone we are already seeing a massive improvement on last year. 6 new young players and 2 returning players has upped the ante as well. Junior team where i’m most likely to spend the year will reap the knock on affects as well.

We will do a 6 week programme in UL to start off with and then back out onto the pitch in March. We did this last year and it worked very well.
Palmer and Kelly Cup competitions start up in Laois at the end of February. These are optional comps for all sides from Junior to Senior to play in, ran last year for the first time, waste of time imo. League will start at the end of March and run through the summer until Cship begins sometime near the end of July again. I expect the draft fixture plan to come out any day now. That will be gospel for the year so holidays can be booked at that point then.
We do one night on an all weather, which is a mix of endurance running, football and speed. Then a night of circuits and football handling drills and another night we do our own personalized stuff. Match most weekends. Cork starts earlier though, so thats why we’re out early.

what do ye do in Ul, is it 2 nights there?
2 nights a week in UL, all done on the indoor track. A mix of speed, strenght and endurance. We had a very good coach last year so hopefully we will get the same again this year.
They try and make a balls of the East Cork football championship as early as possible alright. Wasn’t it at semi final stage by April one year? And November the same stage the year after? Or something along those lines anyway.
Fuck knows, I’m not even sure we have a football coach this year, they fellow (who was pretty good imo) we had last year is pretty pissed off over the fact that the club doesn’t give a shit about football.
I was talking about East Cork as opposed to Castlematyr.
Weren’t ye more football back in the day, got to Junior A final if i recall, i was at it, Newcestown beat ye.
We were intermediate in the late 80s/easrly 90s (I think), supposed to have a fairly good team, a little before my time. We still have some decent footballers, but generally we don’t give a shit about football, just like the East Cork Board.
Ya, it was back then. I think both teams traditionally went up from Junior final around that time. I remember them being good alright, as Newcestown were a serious outfit.
East cork is as big a disgrace to football as Killkenny is. Now there are a few exceptions with Aghada, Glanmire and Youghal doing their best over the years, but the set up is a joke.
Senior Football - Ballincollig
Prem. Intermediate Football - Newcestown (but literally, anyone in this could win it)
Intermediate Football - Killdorrery
Junior Football - Ballygarvan
