Club Championships 2024

Joe Kavanagh at 12, was on Dublin Minor panel in 2022 & Gavin King at 15, he was on Minor team that lost to Tipp in All-Ireland semi in 2015.

Is there just the one club in Castlebar? Led to be think of the big towns that only have one club. Tralee have 4 like.

Ennis (Eire Ɠg), Midleton, Nenagh (Eire Ɠg again) all have one club I believe out of the big Munster towns. Interesting dynamic. Iā€™m sure there are many towns closer to and in around the Pale that have just the one club despite a huge population. Obviously iā€™m excluding city clubs that have enormous populations (Ballygunner, Monaleen, etc.).

King was excellent. The lad who the 3rd goal, the peach, who is he?

There is two clubs in ennis

My bad. Eire Ɠg and?

Only one club, Breaffy would come right into it alright.

Thurles is more or less a one club town. Nenagh is a one club town but Burgess, Kiladangan and silver Mines go right into it all around the town.

Portlaoise another big town with just one club. A club who were obviously very dominant for years before Portarlington came with a strong team and St Josephā€™s snuck one.

The Banner - intermediate football and junior a hurling

Banner.

Na Fianna are really physical and have the Hurling too. If they get Donal Burke firing they are All Ireland contenders.

Kilmacud will have something to say too though for sure.

Portarlington are a one club town too arenā€™t they? Decently sized town in its own right.

Gracefield wonā€™t like that.

Oā€™Dempseys draw out of it too

CiarĆ n Stacey, broke into last yearā€™s Championsip winning team, only a young fella.

Are Doora Barefield not considered an Ennis club?

Burren v Kilcoo for the 3rd time in 4 years in Down. In theory Burren should be able put it up to them and did 3 years ago, but they were abysmal in last years final. The appointment of the referee will be closely watched.

Themselves and Clarecastle would be on the outside of Ennis. Doora has morphed into the town whilst Clarecastle has a clear boundary at the roundabout.

Not in the urban area of Ennis, more the hinterland. Barefield and parts Clooney Quin and Clarecastle would be on the outskirts of Ennis.

I was drinking in Warrenpoint after a wedding at the start of the year when the Burren reserves came into the pub. Sound lads. When they jokingly asked was I interested in playing some ball, I said looking at yer seniors itā€™s not that hard to hand pass it backwards. They laughed but Iā€™d say their style of ball incenses their locals.

Iā€™ve never understood how Ennis and Clarecastle are considered separate places, because they quite obviously arenā€™t.

Itā€™s like a mucksavage version of the idea that Salford is different to Manchester.

Thereā€™s a roundabout in between them.
