Club Championships 2024

Ó Loughlins down to 13 men against the boro. Level with 15 left

Padraig is letting it go so it’s not far away I’d say

Poor fare though. Ballacolla be happy given that wind

Lovely goal

No red card in Laois final after 39mins.

Not for the want of trying. Paddy Purcell takes some punishment

Wind has picked up. I expect Ballacolla to see this out

7 was sorely tempted there.

Very tempted, twice

It would be in the locker back in the day.

Well deserved for Ballacolla. They’ve won finals against all the big guns now in this era. They’ll enjoy this one, incredible time for them and they’ve made hay.

Rathdowney will look back at this team as one of repeated missed opportunities. Minerals seem lacking

Palatine and Rathvilly will have to do it all again. A drawn Carlow Senior Football Final.

Breaffy did a Mayo on it. Conceded 2 goals in the second half of extra time when they looked in control. Poor Aido collided with a team mate which led to the break for the second goal.
Ballina v Knockmore county final.

Cross beaten in Armagh. An all-Lurgan final awaits @peddlerscross

You can’t beat an all-town county final. The Tralee derby 2 years ago a classic of the genre.

Kilmacud Crokes 1-12 0-12 Na Fianna

Turned into a good one after a disappointing opening half. Na Fianna were way too passive and let Crokes into a 0-05 to 0-00 lead. That ultimately proved the difference as despite Na Fianna controlling most of the rest of it they never really looked like winning it.

Having said that i think a number of big decisions went against them. Cooper was blackcarded in the first half for an innocuous enough coming together off the ball. When McHugh was pulled back when through on goal in the second half, a yellow card was the decision. Mannion threaded a fine line when on a yellow and looked to foul in the build up to Crokes match winning goal.

It was tempestuous enough and high stakes poker but Kilmacud had too many bullets to fire. Walsh kicked a big 45 and mark early doors and Mannion a free from the touchline. Na Fianna had hauled themselves back into it but the goal on the stroke of half time was a killer blow. Mannion could have finished it early in the second half when he broke through but instead of burying it himself, he squared to O’Carroll who made a mess of it.

Na Fianna dominated much of the second half but were never close enough to land a knockout blow. Kilmacud could spring Cian O’Connor from the bench. How he doesnt start i dont know. It was too late in Newry when they made the change but today he scored a worldie to keep them in front. The keeper from Kerry is an upgrade on what they had. He pulled off a save from Broadway from McHugh in the second half but then tried a Hollywood pass in the endgame and coughed up possession much to the ire of Coach Brennan.

Its quiet unsatisfactory to see a club the size of Crokes be backboned by outsiders like Walsh, Burns and O’Connor but such is life. They’ll beat Cuala and piss Leinster. I don’t think they’ll be beaten from here unless the Baggio to Meath sideshow distracts them.

Thanks for that, you saved me a summation. A concise report there.

A few things to add. O’ Connor the Sligo man kicked 4 great points.

O’ Dea is worth a look with Dublin. Had Walsh in his pocket and quitened Mannion then.

Modern football is poor spectator fare. Crokes were happy to play keep ball with 15 mins gone and 5 points up.

Do you hold out any hope that Con could win the final on his own?

I know TG4 have the highlights show tomorrow night, but a Sunday game type club show this evening would be great. So many games on.

Agree with that. Walsh was whipped off for a finish when the game was still there.

I was a bit disappointed with O’Hanlon’s kickouts. I know Crokes had all the work done but he seemed to run out of ideas quick enough.

Cuala aren’t as good as Na Fianna so I cant even see King Con defy the laws of physics.

Kilmacud are incredibly cynical and will just do what they have to. They are like Atletico Madrid on steroids when the opposition try to break up the field.

Errigal survived a Killyclogher fight back to win by the minimum. Peter Harte meant to have scored a corker to win it.

It’s a pity these Tyrone games are not on tv.
