Congress 2017 - Super 8 Wars! Edit

I’ve no issue with an elite championship, in fact I’ve been saying for ages the Leinster Qualifiers should be scrapped and replaced with the Christy Ring winners coming through to the main championship in a back door round or something. Maybe even winners and losers of the CR final. The likes of Westmeath & Kerry have nothing to play for in the current format. Put em down to the CR and at least they’d have an achievable goal with the bonus of playing one of the bigger counties at the end.
That proposal above is gash though. Those 5 limbo counties getting fucked over basically.
As for the GAA throwing money at them, :grinning:, come on now be serious. Kerry the county that has made the most progress in recent times didn’t even get the paltry €45,000 a year they were throwing out to the select few weaker counties. Neither did Kildare, Meath or Wicklow three really target-able places that have a reasonable level of hurling already and huge population influxes from traditional hurling counties who could drive it on. And anyway €45,000 would hardly pay for one development officer

45 fucking thousand, jesus would you stop. You’ll only torment me.

"Promotion/Relegation

The winners of the new Tier 2 Championship shall replace the bottom team in the Leinster or Munster Championships, as appropriate, in the following year."

How is “appropriateness” being defined?

So long as none of the stronger counties are affected, in which case we’ll fudge it.

My guess is:
Kerry -> Munster
Any one else -> Leinster

Cork have a second motion in looking to rectify this.

There is no scenario where they’d allow Kerry up and one of the big 5 down.

I could definitely see it happen if Limerick finished bottom of the pile and Kerry were in line for promotion.

If that happened I could die a happy man

Whether it happens to be Cork some year

In all fairness what’s the point of Kerry or Westmeath coming into the main championship to be hockeyed. The B champions used to come into the All Ireland at the quarter final stage and they were hammered every year.

To be fair here to Westmeath, they haven’t been hockeyed in the last three years. Admittedly they have only had to play Limerick and Tipp.

Is there any motion to return the Ring/Rackard/Meagher finals to All-Ireland semi-final day? That did more for the lower level competitions and teams than anything in the previous 100 years.

How will we ever develop weaker counties if they never get a chance to step up?

The GAA don’t wish to develop weaker counties bro, they’re a hindrance.

Ain’t that the truth.

They’d be better off entering the Lory Meagher and Nicky Rackard counties into the Camogie championship and they’d all have more games at their own level.

What if one of the Munster counties went on strike like limerick or cork did…the county board could swallow a few hammerings but to go down to the Christy for a year or 2 would be disastrous… Players would have a much bigger bargaining chip if this comes in, whether they or the cb’s realise it yet…

Only a shower of cunts would go on strike.

If this happens in its original format, Kerry will win the next 15 munster football championships

That was a good idea.
The competitions have to be fully separated form Liam McCarthy and this could now be the case.
The change to u17 competition could also allow for changes in the schedule on match days
