If they can rework the season properly, definitely no problem with moving it earlier. Although finishing in September and just making the entire season more compact could work either.
Iām in favour of the status quo on this.
If you take the whole sporting calendar as a sort of eco-system where each big event has its established place, itās a foolish move to give up your biggest month, September.
The inter-county game drives publicity and media coverage and that is vital to a sport. September is generally a quiet month in terms of other sports with little enough of interest going on, so the path is clear for the GAA to dominate the sports news agenda.
You donāt just throw that away. Iād also be against shortening the inter county season by more than two or three weeks at most for the same reason.
You need a gap of two weeks between All-Ireland finals, really. The All-Ireland hurling finals that were replayed in 2012/13/14 were an after thought until the day before each game due to the fall-out from the football finals played the previous week.
I can understand that argument. Itās valid.
If I was a club player though and moving the finals to August or compressing them helped fix the club calendar Iād want a better reason than that to retain status quo.
Your right though. September is ideal month. Most people have hokiday over and done for year itās something to look forward to with little else clashing with it
Personally I wouldnāt mind seeing the county championships played from, say, early to mid April to mid June over the course of about eight or nine weeks. The ground would be good and the evenings long. Itās only an idea and would be a break with tradition, but thereās no rule that says county championships have to be played late in the year - some already start in April as it is.
Then play the intercounty championships from late June to late September with club leagues continuing over this time frame.
Play provincial and All-Ireland club championships and perhaps a couple of rounds of the National Leagues from the second week of October to late November/early December.
NFL and NHL finals could be on St. Patrickās Day.
Assume main objection to that is schools and colleges exams. No ideal solution really. stopping county managers blocking club players from playing club games whilst still in championship would be a decent start
What would be the rationale behind changing u21 to u20?
John Horan has won the vote for GAA President.
Finally a Dub in charge. Might get some investment in the county now.
Why is this man not popular amongst tfkers?
I agree with the objective of the cpa but they need to be in the tent pissing out rather than be out of the tent pissing.
They need to get control of County boards by getting control of club delegates or becoming club delegates to county board meetings. Typically players are the biggest voting block in each club and they can literally do what they want if theyāre organised.
I donāt know, mate.
I heard Griffinās OTB piece earlier. Heās some orator. Makes Brolley sound like a gimp.
He did a small bit of dirty on laois and @myboyblue has been spearheading a mccabeesque smear campaign since. A bit harsh imho. Horan is an alright sort.
Wexford people are great speakers
Problem is that mbb holds a grudge and has a platform to display it
How could you not be happy for John Horan after his emotional victory speech. Just watched it on the GAA twitter account.
Well done John from your friends in Dublin GAA.
#WorldDomination
As I indicated over 12 months ago, the deal was done, Horan is in.
All the disappointment and despair I felt when Jimmy Grey was beaten to the presidency by Jack Boothman in 1993, and which never left me until tonight, has evaporated with this news.
Forget All-Irelands, Dublin will celebrate this victory like no other.
John will MGAAGA.
