Congress 2017 - Super 8 Wars! Edit

The All-Ireland finals will always be among the greatest sporting events held in the country on any given year, irrespective of the month they are played.

I’d be in favour of moving them to August on a three year trial basis. If it doesn’t work out shift it back to the status quo. No harm trying it. If it stops club championships in counties being shoe horned into deepest, darkest November and December I’m all for it.

It’s farcical that the GAA suggest such a move would improve the plight of club players though when they plan to introduce this nonsensical ā€œSuper 8ā€ issue at the quarter final stage.

Super 8 passed.

Never mind what the club or county players want - there’s a few quid in it for the suits so it’s comfortably passed.

76%… not only does it hurt clubs, what are the representatives of the weaker counties doing? Only 25% voted in favour of the Laois proposal.

All-Ireland finals moved to August.

They have a great way about them

Motion has been passed that extra-time will be played in all matches except All-Ireland & Provincial finals.

Players and management who place a bet on a match involving their own team to face a minimum eight week ban.

Probably impractical to implement or police.

I don’t understand why there was any doubt about this passing. Counties are mandated to vote so surely the result would have been pre-ordained today?

As Duffy says it’s only for 3 years.

The rock reckons it’s unfair on players to play 3 big games in 15 days!!

That Dick Clerkin is a right company man.

He’s the new Jarlath Burns.

I thought the latter stages of the football championship were really good as things stood. Not sure the Super 8 thing was necessary, but at the same time they may work well.

What’s the dick saying now ?

Why the fuck do we need a reply for a provincial final .

Not in Limerick. We have plenty of snitches.

Saying how great the new format for the new football championship is and generally towing the party line of supporting whatever official GAA-dom suggests.

I noticed this on Sunday night when he was on the RTƉ league highlights show advocating the new proposal. ā€œAs PĆ”iric Duffy saidā€¦ā€ Duffy seems a relatively alright sort and is happy to meet with players and hear them out but he’s a nice way of bringing them on board as patsys. Same with journalists who he brings along to sit in on these meetings and so on.

In fairness that’s how shit gets done.

Be interesting what the CPA do now…

Toeing the company line. Idiots. 70% of players are against this. The GAA is gas.
