Congress 2017 - Super 8 Wars! Edit

Very obvious you have no idea of the reality of club game

This new set up will have no appreciable difference on it.

Beat Sizing John first time out so hopefully he’ll play catch up. Fuck the GAA.

Nice prose from Keith Duggan here. I agree with him. The night of the All-Ireland football final is both the last night of summer and the first night of winter. Winter will now begin in August.

And thats the problem

Each county states at the start of the year that their county championship will begin no earlier than, say August 1st. Simple. Each county bar the four counties who are involved in the All-Ireland finals then has ten weeks to run off their county championships. That’s more than enough.

Wouldn’t be enough in a ‘duel’ county like Wexford.

I hadn’t thought of it like that. I now regret the change.

Actually I don’t.

The county final will be both the first day of winter and last day of summer. Fed up with county finals at end of October or the middle of November.

“Elegiac” is a great word.

County finals have always been played in October.

I find it twee how every section of the GAA believes they have a right to play their championship without interruption in the middle of the summer.

It’s a disgrace that an All-Ireland club hurling semi-final and high profile National Football League fixtures should be played in the muck of February. These fixtures should be in July and August, as should every other competition. The dogs on the street know that.

Hurling is a summer game

No they haven’t but All Ireland finals have always been in September*.

*mostly.

Confine it to three months a year and only three months a year, so.

All competitions at all levels.

Fitzgibbon Cup weekend should be moved to the first weekend of September.

Great day for Paraic Duffy. He has really stamped his mark on the association.

St. Patrick’s Day.

Brian Carthy’s report would be magnificent.

“On this, our national day, there really is something very special about our finest young students battling it out on the hallowed turf of Croke Park in front of 200 people.”

That’s the way it used to be with the Railway Cup

Would mess up the plans of the lads in America for the summer

Except there’d be 40,000 people there. Remarkable how they’ve declined. Players (most I’d say) genuinely value them. The games are generally decent, especially in the hurling, and yet the public don’t care.

Sancton to play in the US was voted on this evening. Moved back from 20 July to 1 July which effectively takes interco players out of the picture.

Full j1s who go in may/June still ok but won’t get sanction to play if on a county senior panel at that stage.
