Copa America 2016

Anyone travelling to this wants their head examined

Great international tournament. Possibly the only one better than then the African cup of nations.

Opening match result:
USA 0 Colombia 2.

The second goal was a penalty.

A famous revenge for the Colombians for their 1994 World Cup defeat to the same opponents. Let’s hope DeAndre Yedlin, the US player who gave away the penalty, won’t be murdered as a result of it.

Guff

It’s so good Brazil didn’t even bother calling up Neymar

What?

Neymar isn’t bothering to play for Brazil in this, that’s how much they care about it

One player isn’t bigger than this competition

The real competition was last year, this is a one off competition where they’ve let in the CONCACAF shite to make more money

Mexico and Jamaica played in last year’s tournament, pal.

They have in the last couple.

They’ve been letting in Concacaf teams since the mid 90’s, usually two teams are invited…
This comp is a bit of a one off in that it’s being held in the US and there are six Concacaf teams involved.

1993 was the first time. Mexico reached the final. Archie McPherson was in his pomp on Eurosport during that tournament.

Good game here at Levi’s stadium. Nice bit of needle between two sides that clearly hate each other. Vidal with the predictable first yellow and lucky not to have a second. Sanchez the best player on the park so far and looks most likely to score, just denied by an excellent Romero save.

Di Maria puts the Argies up 1-0. Make that 2-0, Banega. Argies playing well with Messi and Aguero on the bench.

Coutinho tearing it up for Brasil against a hapless Haiti.

Cavani blows a great chance to equalise late on for Uruguay against Venezuela.

Uruguay are 1-0 down and heading out of the tournament.

Uruguay’s goalkeeper Muslera comes up for a corner, is caught by a breakaway, but Venezuela miss an open goal from 40 yards.

The final whistle sounds and Uruguay are almost certainly out, while Venezuela, who were on strike a few months ago, are almost certainly through to the quarter-finals.

Uruguay out, beaten by a speculative/spectacular goal from Venezuela.
King Luis had to watch from bench with hamstring injury.

Jesus, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team belt out their national anthem with such gusto as the Panamanian lads just did there. Very stirring.

No Messi in the starting line up for Argies, on the bench.
