ha, who’s that need i ask, i must already have him on ignore
Idiot post for numerous reasons.
(a) Last year our Minor group won everything from U-14 up. They were considered the best group since Walsh/Sheehan’s year and hammered that same Waterford team in the U-16 AI final. In contrast this year’s group didn’t dominate at any grade and were typically second best to both Limerick and Waterford throughout the years.
(b) In terms of talent, this year’s team had no one on the level of Micheal Cahalane or Pa O’Callaghan.
© Last year’s team had a much easier draw - handy game at home against Clare, and then another home game against Waterford. This year, we had to travel to Limerick to play the favourites for the AI
Basically last year was a group of players playing below their potential, this year we got beaten by a team with superior talent away from home that everyone expected us to lose to.

while i agree with your reasoning in general about the coaches, you are putting too much into 14/16 results. The biggest change in a young man is after 15/16. PLus other counties still put more of an emphasis on structures and skill which can have short term pain but long term results. Cork are often bigger than other counties at 14/16. The bigger players have advantages at that stage, however i don’t see much turnover of player between 16 & Minor and i don’t believe all the best lads at 16 are still the best at Minor always (the majority would be of course). At least that was the problem with the old system and it was a case of once your in your in, but anything outside it is not seen. The more updated one may rectify that with a wider base of players but it was too late this year.
MBB, got the idea from another thread. I would concur with those posters that TFK is a much more enjoyable experience as a result.
Ya, and for ignoring him you’ll now get the majority of your posts rated funny by him.
If only we could switch off the assholes in the real world as well.
he has some belt of a ball. Brilliant under a high ball as well

To be fair @caoimhaoin thats because the majority of your posts are fucking hilarious, to be honest its the main reason to keep coming here just to read your utter utter bullshit
@fenwaypark is merely an extension of that, he seems to have some truck with me because I don’t like horsey murder running. Each to their own I say, merely a bit of banter on TFK, but he takes it a bit seriously it seems. Good luck to him.
I’ve stuck him on ignore now too, well overdue.
Most enjoyable experience so far.

You live a wild life if that was your most enjoyable experience.
Funny how the fella who says this goes out of his way to watch Munster Rugby matches. I take a lil pride in pissing the freak off more than the Munster Rugby franchise.
Last yrs team were excellently drilled but Kenneally fucked up massively with team selection. Ring has an appalling record at minor level with Cork and yet seems to be highly rated.
Shane Kingston and Dwayne Lee were heroic last night. Limerick won’t win an All Ireland unless they sort out their defensive issues. They reminded me of Cork v Clare in last yrs All Ireland final. Everytime Cork forwards ran at them they had overlaps everywhere.
Dayne.

Thought numbers 10, 11, 12 and 14 were impressive for Cork. Created about 6 goal scoring chances on the night whereas Limerick didn’t really create one. The Limerick 'keeper McNamara made a couple of brilliant blocks.
Are Limerick very good?
In places, I thought the full back line looked in big trouble at times last night. Cork had a gameplan that worked to an extent. Left two men inside so Limerick brought jamie porter out from corner back and he was lost out around midfield/half forward. Kingston caused a bit of damage, and the lad with the orange grip was causing all sorts of hassle inside forward in the first half, Cork withdrew him out the field in the second half due to injuries I think.
Limerick looked on top for large chunks of the game, the Limerick half forward line and Tom Morrisey full forward had the beating of their men. 23 points is serious scoring for an hours hurling. They could do with being a little more clinical going for goals at times.
Wouldn’t say brilliant, weaker than last year, but there is good scoring power in the forwards. Didn’t set the world alight against Tipp or Cork but still scored 3-17 and 0-23 in those games respectively. In both games Limerick gave up a host of goal chances and it was only a combination of bad finishing, last gasp blocks and good goalkeeping more goals were not conceded.
Have a good chance against Waterford but equally could see us conceding 5 or 6 goals on a given day.
Here’s a report from another site to put some perspective on last night.
Massive effort by all.
23 scores to 17 tells one story, Cork were unlucky with 5 gilt edged goal opportunities,
Dayne Lee first half,
Alan O’Callaghan penalty,
Eoghan Keniry lay off to Sean Hayes (magnificent interception by Limerick goal keeper),
Mark Dolan lay off to Shane Kingston,
Patrick Collins 21m free whereas Limerick only had 2. Barry Nash hooked by Daniel Meaney & Tom Morrissey called back when almost clear for a 21m free to Limerick.
If Limerick were to have lost, they would be saying they had played poorly (as did both teams for long spells)
Cork did well in nullifying the main threats identified from when the draw was made.
Ronan Lynch at centre back gave up 1-3 from play
Barry Nash kept scoreless
Cian Lynch (no 12) kept scoreless (though hurled an amount of ball)
Colin Ryan only scored 0-1 from play.
Small calls went against Cork also, going for a goal from the penalty when a point was on offer, with Limerick clearing their lines to get a point - 2 point turn around.
Sean Hayes hurley pulled out of his hand clearly & within 15m of the referee, 35m free in to Cork in the first half, yet the play continued to result in a Limerick score - 2 point turn around.
An interesting point made by both managers regarding the fact the game was played so soon after the completion of the Leaving Cert may have caused the poor first touch by many players, but the pitch was very poor, the grass very long & thank god the Munster Final is not being played there.
While it is unfortunate, we must remember they are only 17/18 year olds. They showed great strenght of character to come within an ace of winning after 2 players being stretchered off so early in the game. If the seniors lost Shane O’Neill & Alan Cadogan within 15 minutes to serious injury away to Limerick in championship… …
Does the under-age Rebel Og work seem to be making progress?
2011 Cork 0-12 Limerick 2-14 (away)
2011 Cork 1-9 Tipperary (away)
2012 Cork 1-12 Limerick 0-16 (home)
2012 Cork 1-9 Clare 0-18 (away)
2013 Cork 3-15 Clare 2-14 (home)
2013 Cork 1-20 Waterford 3-19 (home)
2014 Cork 2-15 Limerick (away)
It’s a pity there’s no back door because i think that team would have been made for Croke Park.

under 14 to 17 are blitz type competitions where only those on the age are used.
that gives countys like cork who have huge playing populations a major advantage as they have far more very big players all at the age level who can hurl than smaller playing populations
however at minor level its a sustained comptetion which is run over a couple of months and you can select from three age groups which evens up the relative abilitys of the teams and it is at that point that cork seem to be struggling.
the cork minor team last year was the biggest minor team i have ever seen in either code and therefore it is unsurprising that they were dominant at the lower grades.
the issue where the full resources of the county are still not being used either. recent rebel og sguads of 48 had upwards of 25 players from imokilly on them i have been told which is driving people mad .
clearly i am quite pleased by that type of favouritism as it divides the countys coachs to a great degree
Sars hammering Bride Rovers. Only time I like to see Sars winning is when they are playing the cavemen from Rathcormac.
Midleton beating Killeagh well too. Luke O’Farrell started.
The scum beaten by 16 points.
