Limerick were that bit sharper from the 10th minute onwards. They were very persistent in the short ball all night. They defended very well throughout.
Tim O’M and Joyce the best for Cork. Twomey and O’Leary also good.
A couple of forwards were rusty.
I think Ryan could have given poor Cotter and Roche more time. Bringing on Hoggy made zero sense.
Not sure I have time to watch the match today so any analysis from the Cork lads? Sounds like a shite game in terrible conditions and that our half-forward line was destroyed.
Shite game. Very hard to get into a rhythm. Conditions suited Limerick the better probably. Ref was bad for both teams.
Cork started well, the running game was working. Then it became clear Limerick were willing to show their card for dealing with what the learned from being run at down the middle last year. They clogged it up, happy to let the wings open. Hayes was the anchor in this and oversaw everything. To go with this, Cork launched ball after ball down the centre and he and others like WOD mopped up everything. I can only hope Pat Ryan is keeping his puck out strategy under wraps. The HF line lacked the size to compete, so maybe that was it.
TOM was brilliant and by far our best player. Absolutely fantastic. Brien showed he has the minerals and should be a panellist at least. NOL had another good game and I felt Millerick did well on Shane O Brien who is turning into a right handful. Roche did okay. Joyce was always present but struggled with the conditions and Limerick are cottoning on to his strategy of bursting out and he ran into herds of Limerick lads time and time again.
Connolly looked lively but his touch is poor and couldn’t get anything proper going.
Twomey and Meade to their credit put in good shifts. Barrett and Hayes were quiet and poor. As was Kingston. Horgan looked every day his age tonight and I struggle to see why he was brought on if Fitzgibbon still took the frees.
Power has done his shoulder again. Didnt look good for Lehane either. Adding Cunningham to that, we are light in the forward line already. Could really do with Robbie returning to the form of a couple of seasons ago.
Limerick look like they’ve come out with some injuries too, so neither will be too pleased but theyd a far weaker team out.
It must have been hard to referee. He must have been freezing and cold and half blinded himself. I think he was a little irritated probably by what seemed to be some leisurely paced puckouts. There was no real break in play up to the last free but it looked very soft albeit probably was a free if that sort of thing hadn’t been let go since Brian Cody dictated the rules.
I thought both teams were at it and wanted to win. A good honest game between two very good teams I thought. Good value for money for those who went.
Given the conditions it was a decent game (so poor in normal circumstances but good in that). Exciting finish and a close game. Once you know the result there’s not a lot to excite the purist though.
