Can only imagine what he has been through in 12 months but he gives the players a free pass there nearly ffs

Interesting that BOC had the job even before Ryan quit.

Shocking carry on.

This has been known for years.

Hope he has another run at the top with Cork some day.

He’s far too honourable to be throwing people under the bus.

Anyway, it wouldn’t achieve anything.

Great to see there’s still a fire there. Sounds like he could take the Cork Minors or 20’s again and start again.

The Newtown lads would be outsiders too.

It’s on Rte tonight chief

I’ll be asleep boss. RTE player good to go hopefully when I wake up.

There was an unwritten agreement there when Pat Ryan took over that Ben would be in after him. Unofficially Pat was taken it one year at a time.

Ray Ryan got some doing the time of the strike, it was absolutely scandalous, Cusack, Gardiner and Halpin the ring leaders and assholes on the PROC

Up until the 1970s, North Cork clubs such as Newtownshandrum were often marginalised within the county setup. Even outstanding players struggled to gain selection for the Cork team, as places were typically reserved for city clubs and those in closer proximity to Cork city.
A former Newtownshandrum player once recounted a match in Buttevant in the 1960s against Glen Rovers where tensions spilled over. During an on field altercation, the Newtown manager reportedly berated the Glen sideline, telling them to head back to Cork with their “oul fucking Cork hurling team,” drawing laughter from the local crowd. This incident occurred shortly after Cork’s elimination from the championship.

Interestingly, elements of this snobbish mindset still persist within Cork. From what I understand, Ben O’Connor’s appointment was not especially well received in some city clubs.

Who else was going to get it? Nobody from the city was inline for the job.
