Coronavirus - Close the Airports

Viruses are non-living strips of genetic material, so strictly speaking they can’t die.

What else will?

Science hasn’t a fucking notion.

Restricting international travel, good hygiene and social distancing are the only ways to beat this virus.

In fairness all those things you suggest are science based because science developed to understand what a virus is.

That’s very different to what transpired with the Spanish flu … immunity was built.

You’re talking about something different.

Good hygiene is not science.

Social distancing is not science.

Restricting travel is not science.

A 10 year old could tell you that.

10 years are as smart as your average scientist by the looks of things.

Totally agree. No chance of this clearing unless all but essential travel is cancelled. On the bright side it will get me of a few weddings at they won’t be able to come home :grinning:

Life finds a way guys.

Just get on with it.

I was in the Mater Private there earlier for a blood test. Things have fairly changed in there. You pass this yoke outside A&E

It’s an assessment unit for COVID. Then to get into the hospital proper you have to be screened for the virus. Temperature taken and a load of questions.

When I was queuing for the test then we were informed that the usual €90 charge didn’t apply as the Mater Private was now a public hospital under the management of the HSE.

What a joke of a country.

Whats wrong with this? When I was in St James a few months ago I was seriously impressed with the triage set-up.

The taxpayer is now paying €115M per month to private hospitals off the back of a lovely little deal for them.

Ah. A very good point. And no end in sight and only 8 cases a day.

I know someone who works in the Beacon, she says the whole place is empty.

Yup. When I saw @Fagan_ODowd’s photo I thought the place looked deserted. Yet another poor value deal for the taxpayer. As I said, a joke of a country.

But we won ? We defeated the virus, or something something…

no cases in a number of counties for yonks, but stay at home and destroy the economy even more

Yep. 10 million would have died only for Simon and Leo and Lord of the Rings

You’ll probably find that the countries with no to fewest cases were the ones that acted fastest to bring in restrictions and lockdown.

Oh we did, ya. We’re now back to the good old carefree days when nobody died at all.

Anyway, don’t distract me from my rant. It looks like figures from April estimate that the cost per patient per episode under the private hospital deal was €24,000. That is outrageous. Simon Harris is a fucking clown of a man when it comes to funding and value for money. We can add this to his growing CV of clusterfucks. A unilaterally imposed contract that puts the Irish taxpayer deeper into the hole. He should be sacked.
