My uncle is a cunt and he was saying he’s getting sick of it at this stage. He reckons loads of people are gone away for the weekend and he can’t understand why people are still queuing for shops.
Is that why they are putting out the message in the media that the worse is still to come? So people don’t relax?
It’s the same here, the experience of New York is driving policy throughout the US, much as the experience of Italy drove it in Europe. If you look at states that are similar in population size to Ireland, there is absolutely no need for draconian measures. Oregon for example has a few deaths per day and is projected to have total deaths of less than 200 by the end of the summer. Similar for most of the smaller states, Idaho has a population of almost 2 million, about 15 people dead and 60 projected to die by the end of summer. Yet 95% of the US is under stay at home orders.
We are witnessing insanity from elected officials mainly due to media hysteria. They went from not taking the threat seriously at all in February when it needed to be taken seriously, to a complete overreaction in March where the economy of every rural and semi-rural area was fucked in the bin to help save lives in big cities. When the opposite is true, stop travel from big cities, and leave rural areas alone to keep the economy afloat and keep the city dwellers fed.
Complete madness. The social distancing, hygiene measures, etc. are working to flatten curves and work in every pandemic. The utter stupidity of not allowing people travel 10 miles to see their loved ones while maintaining social distancing, but allowing hundreds of people stand in lines outside shops or milling around in shops. Allowing planes, ferries, trains and buses run, but checkpoints on the roads stopping cars makes sense?
