There’s always social unrest and needless deaths in the South of Italy. Most of it is lawless and run by organised crime. Coronavirus a handy excuse to blame it on now.

Organised crime is certainly agitating this as there is no bigger business in the south of Italy, sadly.

Sad to see people masquerading their own selfishness and weaknesses as mental health issues.

There are plenty of people with mental health problems who are bravely battling the impact of this virus, it does them no good when people are trying to gazump this for their own gains.

…es and analysis methods, and that means looking at the reliability of the test for coronavirus, the sample size of the population being tested (i.e. asymptomatic individuals are getting sick and making full recoveries without being tested, and never form part of the reporting on mortality rates), etc.

I have not knowingly ignored data. In fact, I went so far as to break down some of the multiple factors at play in Italy a few days back (Reopen the counties - the COVID-19 Edgy thread).

…f somebody said we’ll have a vaccine in 18 months time on the dot I’d love to see what people would do. I’d doubt many would bother try and wait it out. I was supportive of the government in many ways but at the moment we aren’t truly in lock down and we don’t seem to have any plan only to sit around.

OK, guys, this experiment has gone on long enough, and the attempts to save the lives of the ‘elderly and seriously ill’ demographic has failed miserably.

You haven’t compared the death rates from Italy to a normal year like here. Or Spain or France. Which is the data you’re using to downplay the measures here.

Let me ask you one genuine question.

If there wasn’t a genuine risk to public health, why would almost every nation on the advice of experts, lock down their countries, knowing the consequences? They have access to more data than you, and they had it before you or I.

You are denying mental health is a problem by saying lock down has no effect on these people. You are the selfish one that can you can’t understand the difficulties many people are going through. The blood will be on governments hands if it turns out we stayed in lock down too long and we lost many people because of it. We will have to learn to live with this virus. Not hide from it.

…or Lahinch this weekend. I’m looking carefully at the data, as opposed to how it is being represented by media outlets. The upshot is that I’m concerned that the massive economic damage we’re heading for is not justified. Add in the new regulations, and the remedy is definitely worse than the cure.
