Coronavirus - Here come the variants

I donā€™t think thatā€™s what heā€™s saying. I think he is suggesting they should put more carriages on.

It felt like we were closer to the end last November

Bitter sweet watching the scenes coming in from across the water on the news there.

Pubs open, shops open, people socialising. I think itā€™s called living.

Meanwhile weā€™re given the crumbs of two families can meet outside but not in a garden and jailing vaccinated people who fly in from abroad, for a fortnight.

How the HSE and NPHET still get away with their propaganda is unreal. That shit last week on cases caught in shops was just reported without question.

Ah, the old ā€œyou want old people to dieā€ argument. Fuck off with yourself you blabbering windbag.

You mean ā€œburnsā€ out I assume? Any hope of this virus burning out is now gone, sadly. Much more likely is it will be endemic for generations. Itā€™s more infectious than influenza and has effective replaced it (know anyone with the flu this year?). Variants of Covid are the new influenza, get used to it.

What does vaccination get you? Hopefully herd immunity (do you even understand what herd immunity is? I donā€™t think you do, nor immunity, nor how a vaccine works), along with those who have been infected already and have built some immunity. Unless, and of course you dodged this because you are led by emotion and not science, immunity doesnā€™t last very long or is less effective against the inevitable variants that come along. So the best we can hope for is that immunity builds up over time in the population as more people are exposed to the virus, get vaccinated, or both. For younger healthy people infection is extremely low risk, and at least as good and likely more effective at building immunity than vaccination. I realize that last sentence was wasted on you.

Infection rates and death rates are obviously linked, being obtuse is to try and separate them. You are simply wrong on excess deaths, itā€™s the gold standard for monitoring the impact of a pandemic, as it can tell you (if deaths are properly recorded) the contribution from direct Covid, indirect Covid, and non Covid. Why do you think governments do not talk about excess deaths? Itā€™s quite simple, countries and US states that abandoned lockdowns last summer have fared no worse, and in many cases better, than those in forever lockdown. Welcome to stupid.

Yes, there is a solution other than moronic lockdown cycle. Abandon moronic lockdowns and focus instead on building a better health care system than the obsolete one you have (what did your government do in the last year other than giving themselves pay rises?). Look at countries that have done this, they have never been anywhere close to being overwhelmed and have half the death rates of their neighbors (Germany ,Netherlands). Focus on health and education, itā€™s shocking how many obese there are and how few people understand immunity and how to strengthen immunity.

Covid is not a significant threat to 80% of the population. All you are left with then is the danger of young people infecting the vulnerable. Well, guess what, they donā€™t care what you or any other middle aged old fart thinks and they havenā€™t for at least the past six months. The ones that are conscientious will do everything possible to avoid infecting the elderly, the ones who are not wonā€™t, and thereā€™s fuck all you or any government can do about it. Short of a totalitarian state of course.

Which is of course what you would love, hard to leave that stickie background behind isnā€™t it.

Theyā€™re getting hammered about mandatory quarantine and suddenly the media are reporting word for word a DoH story about recent clusters being linked to international flights

Hon @balbec

Iā€™m very pessimistic about the summer now, we have no politicians to stand up to NPHET and all they have to do is keep scaremongering going through their sock puppets in the media. The only glimmers of hope is that the UK reopening goes well and that the ECB turn off the money tap at some stage. Call me a conspiracy theorist but at this stage it looks to me that NPHET want this misery to never end.

You need to step away from the keyboard and get some air. Your anger was amusing but the increasing levels of hysteria in your posts is sad to see.

Forget about the summer. Every vaccine will be stopped in a few weeks. Theyā€™ll push for zero covid then.

Iā€™m just back from a long walk actually. Will be going to the pub for one on the way home (outdoors, although indoors is also available). Life is good mate. Enjoy your next year of lockdown.

Iā€™d say NPHET would happily recommend level 5 for rest of year

The language!

One of those stories relates to October. They are absolutely shameless.

Hilarious that nice guy Simon is now elbowing in and saying heā€™ll pay for Erasmus students to quarantine. Donnelly will be fuming.
