Coronavirus - Here come the variants

This one goes out to Dr Tony and all the cunting experts

The mandatory hotel quarantine system has been described as a “shambles” by a man who was released early from a hotel only to be told an “administrative error” had occurred and he had to go back.

Lee Brennan, a helicopter pilot who works in Italy, was allowed leave mandatory quarantine in the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Dublin on Sunday, and he travelled home to Donegal.

However, the following day he was told an error had occurred and he needed to go back to Dublin to continue to quarantine.

It will be Monday next week at the earliest when he will be released from the hotel if he gets a negative PCR test.

Mr Brennan described what happened as “farcical” and said he’s faced with the prospect of having to stay long-term in Italy, away from his wife and daughter in Ireland, “until this shambles of an operation has either gone away or no longer applies to Italy”.

Mr Brennan was “extremely surprised” but was given a certificate of discharge and he returned to Donegal that evening.

He said he got a call from the hotel on Monday telling him he needed to come back to Dublin as there had been an “administrative error” and he should not have been released.

As Mr Brennan understands it, he was wrongly categorised as someone who had to go into mandatory quarantine because he did not have a negative PCR test rather than a passenger who arrived from a designated state and who therefore was required to go to a quarantine hotel.

A solicitor advised him to seek the instruction to return in writing and to stay at home until he got this.

Mr Brennan says he looked for written confirmation that he had to return but none was sent to him.

GardaĂ called to his house on Tuesday evening to tell him he had to comply with the instruction to return to the hotel, and Mr Brennan drove back to Dublin.

It’s unbelievable that the historically most incompetent government department are now running the entire show.

What is the point of all those stupid looking emojis, painful shite.

Gav has played a :cyclone: this pandemic

Lady with a negative test and two doses of the Pfizer on her way there now. Only 4 days since she had the second vax. Happy that this serious threat is being locked away.

Just following orders is it?

Quite seriously, is there any prospect of the fella sitting in the little window using a bit of common sense and giving her the nod? Is documentation kept and reviewed anywhere?

We have no discretion on this.

Anyone explain how gyms are being considered so soon or what’s the thinking? Enclosed crammed space with people pumping out breath and aerosols at a rate much higher than anything else?

What is in place to stop the person who inspected this lady’s documents from waving her on? Does a second person check? Are documents copied and reviewed?

Seriously, I’m not trying to be a dick here, I’m curious about this. The Gardaí use their discretion all the time to wave people on for various infringements. Maybe you guys don’t have that discretion, but my question is, if that lady was allowed through, how would that “mistake” be picked up? Could it be picked up?

I’ve no idea. You might get away with it. You might not. Every inch of the airport is under CCTV.

So no crowds at club games. Wouldnt they just say 200. Madness.

CCTV is hardly going to pick up that lady being a few days short of fully vaccinated. Anyone that waved her through could plausibly say they misread the dates.
