Eddie Hobbs is an attention-seeking narcissist looking for a way to refloat his ācareerā after an ample track record of failure.
Ivor Cummins is a snake oil salesman on the make.
The other four are cranks.
Cummins said that lockdowns cause five to 20 times more harm than they mitigate. He said there are studies to that effect but did not say where they are.
The sum total of a hour plus long discussion? The same kango-headed insistence that the virus should have been let run through society. They had no solution to offer and they have no solution to offer.
As I said: morons.
People who think they are making a major statement of personal autonomy by not wearing a mask are merely making a major statement of childishness.
If you were to take or consider one thing it might be the idea that thereās been a paradigm shift in medicine - where itās now considered appropriate to risk harm to a child in order to protect the elderly
Constantly harping on about children in this regard is highly unseemly ā and basically a concession that you do not have a coherent argument to make. Instead you have a passive aggressive rhetoric about children. Are you not aware scares about the purity of children is a long established far right tactic? This statement is merely a statement of historical fact.
To repeat: you had no problem with risk when large swathes of society, on your urging, were meant to accept risk. Now you have an awful problem altogether with the minimal risk associated with vaccines.
Are you a hypocrite or just intellectually confused?
Itās the most political pandemic ever. Latching lockdowns onto climate change was excellent.
And Iām sure there are lots of climate crises happening all the time, there have always beenā¦hence rain dances, human sacrifices, greta glumberg etc
Arthur has a point - and I suppose you do too. Thereās been next to no balance around covid discussions for the last 2 years but I think thatās the modern world. People like never before can seek out the opinions they want to hear and agree with to affirm their own way of thinking - and thatās what it largely is, me, me, me - Iām rightā¦ similarly, they seek out opposite opinions for the same reason and to howl at the moon.
There was loads done wrong during the pandemic - and hopefully a time comes when we can properly reflect on it - but creating more division and scorn is counter productive right nowā¦ You can call people sheep and the likes all you want, but most people just want to get back to a level of normality.
But I will say we were badly failed by all our politicians during the last 18 monthsā¦ other parliaments hotly debated measures as they were introduced - our politicians hid and played games. And the one time some one did speak out - Leo, the press jumped all over himā¦
But Cant we be friends again? Cant we get back to the good times? Can we not just all get along and maybe some day soon hug each other again?
Itās not really two tiers tho - itās 90% v 10% - and if weāre all honest, half of the 10% wear tin foil hats and think lizard aliens are behind the virus.
I doubt that you have much of a clue on the subject of climate change but if you can explain how climate change simultaneously causes heat waves in Canada and floods in Germany then Iām all ears.
BTW I think weāre back to calling it āglobal warmingā after a confusing period of cooling where we used āclimate changeā
I did. Woke up early after a nice few pints ā indoors! ā last night, after a Junior hurling match. So watched it. I could have written out the whole script, nearly to a word, without ever seeing it. Childish people are drearily predictable.
I accept lockdowns have been terrible in various ways. I do not accept people trying to be blithe about the crisis faced and the risk involved. And the hypocrisy about the topic of risk is ever more stark.
The linkage to climate crisis is highly telling. That craic is straight out of the American Institute for Economic Research playbook.
You do agree that the planet is heating up? I presume you agree that the amount of waste and chemicals we pump into the climate isnt exactly healthy? Thereās also no denying that water levels are rising - the polar caps are shrinking and droughts are getting longer in areasā¦ I presume you also agree that cutting down whats left of the rain forests isnt a good ideaā¦ And the continued mass extinction of wild life, iād say you wouldnt be in favour of that eitherā¦ Climate change or not, I think it wouldnt be a bad idea to change some of our ways to live a greener life, no?
I have plenty clue about climate change ā starting with the clue that it exists.
The "āheat waves in Canada and floods in Germanyā scoff was a Trump favourite ā and remains simpleminded beyond belief.
You appear to think you have some sort of a superior insight into the world. Where is it? In your slavish admiration for the likes of Ivor Cummins? What wisdom have you ever offered? Your recurrent bottom line is a Joe Duffyesque 'āWhat about the childer?ā
Absolutely. Pollution is an absolute scandal, but carbon emissions are a relatively safe form of pollutionā¦even beneficial in some ways. And the planet is warming slightly it will probably continue to do so until we reach the peak of this inter glacial periodā¦which is probably a couple of centuries away. Man may have some impact on heating or cooling, maybe ā¦sensible estimates put it at 3% maximum, but probably much less.
