County Minor should no longer impact the club given that under 17s cant play adult
It messes with 21s though which forces them to either end of the calendar for club and county
Not to mention the dual player.
The club game needs to move to u13/15/17/19 in every county to align with intercounty demands
As far as I am aware, this will be one of the congress motions. Wexford have it at club level at the moment and some clubs want to revert back but have been told they wont be able to as it will be a national movement to have it at the 13/15/17 years.
The U20 bracket is the biggest issue at the moment and the players finishing minor at U17. That to me is the biggest problem right now with no real proper solution
I thought most counties have underage competitions for every age group now, u11/12/13/14 etc?
Having moved around the country a bit the thing Iām most struck by is how differently things are viewed. Where I done most of my hurling and football, adult championship games would only be played on Saturdays and Sundays. Where I live now, they happily play adult championship games on Monday and Thursday evenings which seems crazy to me but is perfectly normal here. Its just one of the reasons why fixtures have to be tackled at a local rather than national level.
Iād have thought the opposite to be honest, most counties just have the traditional 2 year gap and only a small few are able to cater for each age grade.
Feile is still at U14, so we have that competition in the middle of the general U13/U15 season alright and there are some other minor tournaments in Wexford that cater for the U16s, but county championships are only at the 13/15/17 age groups.
I know in some counties they have competitions at every age grade, I presumed it was the norm now. They will have maybe the odd ages in the first 6 months and even ages in the 2nd 6 months. Works very well too as it means every kid is playing at their age each year so donāt drop out then when they are not starting games when playing a year above.
All about winning for you lads. Playing 13 a side with 14 subs.
love how so called diehard gga fans dont realise that they look after tugowar and wallball too
The tug-o-war championship runs off seamlessly. No need to change it

Ah I donāt know, the young lads doing it are being pulled all over the place
17% isnāt bad. Makes it the second highest month overall. And I know that we played matches at the end of March which came under the āApril club monthā bracket, players released from county, etc.
Also, including the Limerick divisional Championships is a load of shite, thatās not real Championship and is just distorting figures.
I really donāt get their point. 17% is a decent number and no players actually want to play in April anyway
April as club month is a cunt of a solution. Players with season defining games the first weekend in April and the clocks only gone back a couple of weeks.
It puts serious pressure on small clubs to pay for floodlit facilities etc.
Itās a token gesture. Pisses everyone off.
Of course weāre all part of the problem by not finding a solution but itās really remarkable that this is still an issue.
County players taking time off in their droves is the best thing to happen in relation to all of this though. The more jack it in the better.
It was one of the main requests by the CPA, which just shows how little of a clue they have on how to address the things they whinge about. Now that itās in they are complaining that county boards are not applying it, despite the figures above showing that nearly 1/5th of all championship games are played in the month. They are clueless but as long as they are given media attention they will stay going.
Iād be interested in hearing the CPA side of this tbh.
