Crazy Dublin Rents and House Prices

Fucking SCENES!

Agreed . Good climate draws homeless . When I was there 20 years ago there were a huge amount of army veterans . Very sad .

Some amount of them in Vancouver as well when I was there 4 or 5 years ago, although very much out of sight, living under underpasses and the sort. Again probably the best climate to be homeless in Canada, although I can’t imagine it’s pleasant even at that.

Toronto had a lot of vagrants as well.

Auckland, NZ a similar story. Not a bad place to be homeless, climate wise, and it probably makes it more visible. You’d be zig-zagging up and down Queen St trying to avoid stepping on homeless lads (and lassies) laid out on pieces of cardboard on the footpath. Auckland is a complete basket case when it comes to rent and property, the geography of the place doesn’t exactly help.

How’d you make that out mate or was this a typo? I’d imagine Canada would be a bad place climate wise to be a homeless person, it would be freezing there for a good few months of the year?

I said it’s the best climate in canada to be homeless, as in if you had to be homeless in Canada you’d want to be in Vancouver.

Snow is actually relatively rare in Vancouver, maybe 10 days of it a year, it has a much milder climate year round than other parts of Canada. Not as hot in the summer or as cold in winter.

Nice city to be fair to it. Very livable I’d imagine, though I was only visiting. The pubs are cat though

Vancouver is a lovely city, but being outside at 0-5C for 3 months can’t be too comfortable. They get a fair bit of snow from Dec to Feb, we were there in March last year and there was still a fair bit of snow on the ground.

You could take pretty much all of that and apply it to Dublin.

What point are you trying to make? You’ve just criticized or been snarky about all the posts here.

Except there are not many actually sleeping on the streets right? Most homeless are in emergency housing in Dublin (and Ireland) I believe. But it’s definitely where Dublin and other cities are heading as people continue to flood into cities where housing is increasingly scarce.

Dublin is nowhere as bad as San Fransisco or numerous other cities across the globe for rough sleeping.

My point is that you could take all of labane’s post there and draw parallels with Dublin. It was a fairly simple point really. Dimwit.

Some locals in Vancouver told me a tale . There was an unofficial provincial government policy in Ontario of trying to clear a lot of the homeless out of Toronto many years ago. They went round to the homeless giving them one way bus tickets to Vancouver (about a three day journey I think) and they all then camped out at the beach when they arrived.

Could be a lot of shite but that’s the yarn they were selling this Mick

Vancouver is the only place in Canada (well with Victoria BC) where being homeless is a year roumd possibility. Every year homless people bus in for winter from as far away as manitoba, leave again in spring. Similar to san fran theres a huge willingness to help but the numbers are overwhelming in an extremely expensive city short on usable land with mountains, sea and the USA on three sides, canadas only all round agricultural land on the other. They build shelters and spaces but the homeless are often terrified to stay in them due to violence so happier on the street. The tfk tourists obviously swerved the few blocks on the downtown east side where thousands live on the street. It snowed in 2016, the first time in 6 years there was any snow in the city, theres been a bit since but its not an issue usually.

Canadians are generally more understanding in relation to this, i remember a city in alberta had completely eliminated homelessness at one stage but theres only so much Vancouver can do when a few thousand bus in.

Interestingly when the Olympics came they bussed loads out to commuter cities. Harsh pragmatism.

When you see it every day in huge numbers you become numb to it really, it always shocked visitors. I spent a few days in san fran at one stage and booked a cheap place in the tenderloin. Holy fuck.

Your previous post trashed the article.

Labane largely agreed with it.

So what’s your position?

Wonderful stuff. Alongside Jonny Ronan’s tower there could be a nice cluster of height there. All surrounding the transport hub for Dublin.

I see Piltown is a rent pressure zone now. Cc @Locke @Piles_Hussain

Heard that. Bizarre. Must be for the Waterford commuters

I’d say it’s the lads commuting to Callan.
