Escape To Victory - international football at its very best with some standout performances, notably Michael Caine’s Richard Dunne-esque command of the defence alongside the great Bobby Moore (the finest central defensive partnership England never had) and Ossie Ardiles’ thrilling attacking flair. Pele’s “please, Hatch” appeal to Sylvester Stallone to continue playing was an appeal that couldn’t fail to move you.
Nuns On The Run - Note to fans of The Big Lebowski - this is what an actual comedy is supposed to be - funny. Robbie Coltrane’s finest performance, even outdoing his portrayal of Fitz in “Cracker”.
+1. I could never understand the flak that movie got. Fucking great show.
Waterworld. Panned by the critics but it’s a terrifying insight into a future that is ours unless we tackle climate change. The subtlety of Costner’s mesmeric performance is lost on most people.
Well it is looking at it through a cynical adult’s mind but it was mainly aimed at kids and I loved it as a kid. I try not to watch too many movies I loved as a kid as I know they won’t be the same. Anyway Julio, you’re supposed to name movies that are generally accepted as shite but that you enjoyed.
