Epic stuff
Extraterrestrial
Del Toro will regret this one, but I suppose he’s quite young and and talented and hopefully will put it behind. Ultimately the team directors really let him down…. Should never have let the gap out to where Van Aert got over the top of the Fenestre and should have told him sooner to stop fucking around marking Carapaz. He really took his eye off the ball (Yeats) until it was too late. It was great to watch though, Epic stuff, as the man said.
He should win grand tours but Pogaczar, Ayuso and Almeida all in the same team it’ll be difficult. Missed the chance of a lifetime. I think EF fucked em both with the pace they rode into the climb. Fair play to yates though, he took his chance.
Not exactly a new trick though. They surely should have seen it coming.
Del Toro should have chased. Take responsibility for the jersey.
Yep. You have to wonder about the team manager though. Twas like spread betting
Just caught up on this last night. Hard to believe they let him off like that. I reckon Carapaz was wrecked but Del Toro stuck to original plan to mark him. Yates had looked weak the previous day. I felt it was a bit of an anticlimax. I’d have loved to have seen del Toro descend like a lunatic and chase him.
I dunno, I thought it was one of the best grand tour stages I’ve seen, great entertainment. I suppose you could say it got a bit anti climatic a couple of kms into the descent when it finally dawned on the two boys what had happened and they for all intents and purposes sat up. But the climb up the Fenestre was fantastic, the aesthetics of the climb itself, crowds, the gravel, the gap opening, closing, opening again, closing, and esp the suspense around where is Van Aert… you know he’s up the road somewhere, but you can’t see him as there’s no camera on him. Then the massive turn Van Aert puts in to drag Yates and assorted hangers on trying to hold his wheel, just raw power.
It was a classic example of the best cyclist doesn’t always win the race.
Maybe it would have upset Pogaczar if he won it. Can’t have too much competition in the team.
You’d genuinely wonder. Emma reckons the organisers would be pissed off for your man not showing enough pride in the pink jersey. A total fuck up, largely on team management. She reckons something must have gone on.
I doubt it. Del Toro seems a good and humble chap, tis Ayuso is the problem and would be insufferable if he won.
It was great to watch but could have been incredible
Who’s Emma?
Interesting TT day at the Dauphine. Remco did a Remco, Vingegaard is back in mutant shape and Pogacar looks completely out of form. The Dane looks like he’s right where he needs to be to hammer Pogacar in July again. The latter looks like the classics season has cooked him.
Ben Healy in with a shout for tomorrow’s stage.
Wasn’t Pogacar sort of fucked the last time Vingo beat him? Or had a very bad injury in the run up to the Tour. When is the last time they faced off and both were at full fitness?
Pog broke a wrist or an elbow in Liego so he wasn’t raced at all. It was a miracle Vino even raced last year. 2022 was the last race when they were both fit.
Pog was fair sour yesterday I’d say. Didn’t speak to the media. Went to the Visma bus to check out the TT bikes afterwards.
Personally I’m sick of him. He makes every race he enters boring becuase he is at a different level.
Eddy Dunbar going nicely whatever about Ben Healy.
It is better for the sport if he isn’t all out dominating, but Vingegaard and Jumbo Visma have always given me Froome and Sky vibes, which was an awful period of cycling in terms of entertainment. At last Pogacar is unpredictable and all out entertaining.
