Cycling 2013

Yeah itā€™s a big blow to him, Kessiakoff especially. That said, he can be gritty and he still might manage okay and get a Top 15. Van Den Broeck and Bouhanni also forced to withdraw due to injuries

In an unrelated matter, Radioshack let Franck Schleck go today. To be honest I was surprised they let him see out the end of his contract and didnā€™t sack him there and then when he was done for doping.

Presumably they knew he was doping and were afraid heā€™d talk?

Possible. What might be a more likely reason is that they wouldnā€™t have wanted to piss Andy off by sacking his brother. Even though heā€™s gone to shite, heā€™s still that Radioshackā€™s best rider

Lack of TV coverage in Asia for this is somewhat of an annoyance. How is Martin doing lads? Talansky showed anything? What happened JVDB?

a) ok
b) no
c) crashed

Martin is doing as well as he can to be honest. The most positive thing you could say is that he hasnā€™t been involved in any crashes and hasnā€™t lost any time in the GC, sitting 22 seconds down in 17th. Heā€™s done the right thing and resisted the urge to do anything at all and has been pleasantly anonymous thus far. Pretty much the exact same for Talansky. Big news for the two lads this morning though, as Vande Velde abandoned just after the depart. A big loss in terms of experience and support but also avoids potential questions of leadership and who is working for who.

Van Den Broeck had to withdraw due to a knee injury. He suffered it during a nasty looking pile-up a few hundred metres from the finish on Stage 5, caused by Bouhanni trying to get into position for the sprint. Not clear if thereā€™s any serious damage done to his knee, but bad enough that he couldnā€™t continue

Not much to report as far as I can see, thus far, save for the hilarious ending to Stage 1. Tomorrow is when the real action begins.

Thatā€™s just from my cursory checking in on TV when Iā€™ve had time and reading Cyclingnews.

Ray, download the skoda tour tracker. Itā€™s an SBS app. Excellent app with loads of info and can view a live stream.

(I know downloading and installing an app is very difficult for someone with an extremely low technical ability but I believe there is an IT thread that can help you out)

Fascinating stage today. Cannondale have poured on the pressure on the climbs to dislodge Cavendish and Griepel so their man Sagan can consolidate his lead in green. Sagan picked up the 20 points at the intermediary sprint and has increased his lead to 49 points.

A 3 man break is away with 10kms left including Jan Bakelants who is trying to get the yellow jersey off Impey. Cannondale and Orica Greenedge are chasing it down, and it looks like weā€™ll have a sprint finish. Sagan should be favoured but Boasson Hagen is there too.

Sagan takes the stage, what a great ride that was from team Cannondale!!

So Cannondale has a better chemist than the others?

Well they were Liquigas until last year, the team of Basso and Di Luca. Tremendous driving today alright.
Pyrenees tomorrow. Chance for Dan Martin I reckon. The steep climbs there might suit him more than the Alps.

I shall do just that Gerry.

Downloaded that app. is class alright. Any chance Martin will make top 5?

every chance. Expect him to do well this weekend.

Quintana has blown everyone to shit here, has gone off on an attack of monsterous intensity. If he stays out he could blow the race wide open

Roche was dropped just before the summit of that climb, after working for Contodor on the way up, but heā€™s going to get back on, descending very well.

Quintana still out in front, despite some very dicey descending

Quintana has a 40 second lead over the Sky lead pelaton at the foot of the final climb. Time to see what the young Colombian is made of.

Froome riding into yellow here

What a show of strength from Sky! A 1-2 in Paris wouldnā€™t surprise me.
