What can you say about Duffer. One of the good lads. Always showed up, and always tried hard. A lovely bit of class to him on his day. Just a shame Jose killed the boy inside him when he got hold of him.
Worked hard to develop himself from the frail winger who used to fall over at the slightest touch early in his career, possibly due regard to Jose for that one too perhaps? Might be getting the timeframe mixed up a little on that though. Deserved a better send off to his Intl and Club careers than he got, but went out quietly as is his wont.
A great man for popping into Tramco in Rathmines back in the day actually.
Tough to say if Chelsea was a misstep. Had a good season with them initially before Robben was brought in. He played his way back into that Chelsea team, which is a testament to his character. Played a fair bit on the right when both he & Robben were fit. Managed to win a League medal which not many Irish lads can say they have.
All said though he was far too nice a player for the style Chelsea played.
I dont believe it was a misstep, it just changed him as a player imo. I believe it was a great move for him personally though, I mean he won titles, and played at the highest level in the European Cup. He was dead right to do it.
2 league medals and champions league football. The move to Newcastle was the misstep. He was never the same player once he went there

It definitely took a bit of the x-factor from his play, although who is to say he wouldnât have lost that as he got older anyway.

Newcastle has been the burial ground of many a good player. A poisonous club and town.
Newcastle has always been one of my favourite clubs.

Still
It would strike me as a horrid club at present, but ok.
Never as good as he couldâve been. Was just a workhorse for most of his last few years playing for Ireland
+1. He comes across as a lovely man.
I was moved, greatly, when he told of renting a 5 a side pitch on his Tobler in Loughlinstown.
Any housing estate built in the last 25 years usually are designed to make ball games difficult on green areas and in some cases itâs outlawed to partake in a ball game on the field. This needs to be fixed.
I played on a grand field from morning till the oul lad took me home by the ear and I was still utterly mediocre.
Tis no wonder that cunt Whelan who passes it out for a throw as a speciality has so many caps.
