Davis Cup 2014

Fognini looks like he is going to get us back on level terms with Argentina.

Germany are two up on Spain who are without Nadal, Ferrer and Almagro.

The Swiss lead Serbia 2-0. No Djokovic, Troicki or Tipsarevic for the Serbs, the Swiss on the other hand have Wawrinka and Federer.

Great Britain beat USA in San Diego to advance to their first Davis Cup quarter final since 1986. Next up Italy away in April. I suppose that’ll be played in the muck.

I dont know Manuel, Maybe the Italians have learned a lesson or 2 from the USA match and they might switch to a different surface. Sure come April it will be into the muck court season so Italy will get no advantage.

Great Britain 2-1 up against Italy going into today’s singles. Magnificent win for Andy & Colin Fleming in yesterday’s doubles. If Andy prevails against the brittle Fabio Fognini, its a first semi final appearance in 33 years.

Ireland also 2-1 up going into today’s singles. I think the gulf between their #1 and their #2 is greater than ours, so while McGee won’t have it easy, I expect Sam Barry to triumph and seal a valuable win for this great tennis nation of ours.

Murray lost

Hopefully Italy can win the final game.

Fabio Fognini!!!

Very disappointing to see Andy lose to one of the games journeyman Fognini. Just goes to show playing tennis in the muck is an utter farce and a lottery. Fognini has only ever made it to the second week of a Grand Slam tournament twice in an underwhelming career, French Open quarter finalist in 2011 and 4th round in Melbourne back in January.

British hopes now rest with James Ward beating Andreas Seppi in the decider. In ranking terms its 751 v 51 so its a huge ask for James.

Eat that, you hapless schlepper.

Who do they row in with for Davis Cup purposes in your neck of the woods in Tyrone? Great Britain or Ireland?

Fognini crushed 6-2 6-3 6-2 by Stan and Federer also with a straight set win over Bolelli as Switzerland take a 2-0 lead in their Davis Cup semi final over Italy.

French also 2-0 up on the Czech Republic as Gasquet and Tsonga both win.

Israel have just gone 2-1 up on Argentina, joni erlich and andy ram winning the doubles in 5 sets.
match is being played in Florida as Tel Aviv was deemed to dangerous
i had the pleasure of meeting former Australian open doubles champion Andy Ram after he won a doubles game out out court 18 during the Championships in 2012 on a balmy Saturday night.
Murray was on center which meant the outer courts were easy to get to and we sat virtually court side with the knowledgable and polite crowd.
he posed for a picture with the wife that is on my facebook page afterwards, a most affable man, there was a lovely program on israeli TV there recently that followed him around for a few months and showed the emotional distress of being away from his kids and playing on the ITF challenger series in far flung locations sometimes the prizemoney not even covering his airfare… a lovely, lovely man

Federer routed Fognini in straight sets. Switzerland into their first Davis Cup Final since 1992 where they will face France.

1-1 at the end of the first day’s play in the Davis Cup Final.

Monfils beat Federer in straight sets.
Wawrinka beat Tsonga in four.
