A stalwart of my fantasy football teams of times past, cheap and a decent goalgetter when fit. Sad to see.
I don’t like it when players have to retire early through injury.
Tough on him.
Was a good player but never really looked like he’d get over his injury problems.
Farmer will be gutted. He saw him as a future Liverpool centre forward.
Who do you think is the best player to have had to retire young due to injury, say under 30?
What age was Van Basten?
I guess you could argue that Duncan Edwards retired through injury.
I hear he’s considering suing Shaun Wright Phillips and Chelsea?

Van Basten was around 31 wasn’t he?
I hear young Michael Johnson might be a goner too. Ironic as Arsene Wenger had been interest in making him a Gooner.
marco was 31 alright, i heard johnson is gone a fut cunt.
sureley dean was insured aginst the injury re future loss of earnings
Marco may have been 31 when he retired but not sure if he played in his 30’s at all.
yeah i forgo9t to make that point rocko, i remeber a story of an AC fan want to donate his cartilage to van basten, id say the last year he played properly was 92-93

Johnson is back playing with City, didnt think he was fucked since I last heard? He was on the bench last Wed night v Arsenal in Carling Cup.

He was faily heavy gotten, but has lost a lot of it now. Runours of substance abuse hounded him for a while.
I’d say Ashton will be alright off somehow or other, West Ham were paying silly wages for a long time there and of course the insurance.
wasnt really a question of him being alright, just awful to see him cut down in his prime.
im sure every club has facilities in place for when this occurs.
Did his cruciate yesterday and I’m led to believe retirement is an option he is considering. Was just back from some problem that the City medical staff couldn’t diagnose.
Doesn’t strike me as the type of guy with a love for the game. He’s 21, on 50k a week and could retire now. Jesus life is unfair.
Kind of a Man Utd curse here.
David Hirst was linked to them and ended up picking up an injury and packing in the game.
RvN was a lucky man to come through a bad injury that delayed hi goin to Utd a year.
AShton had been linked to Utd on a number of occasions before picking up the injury in training for England.

That is all incredibly tenuous
I would say it is SWP and England he is on about suing seeing as he broke his ankle while training with the national team…
Michael Bridges looked to have serious potential and was scoring goals for fun or sunderland and then leeds before he got a bad injury, he was never the same after it, was just after getting called up to the england team as well…

A gambling addict allegedly is young Johnson. Had the makings of a fine player too.
Ashton was a fine centre forward. Powerful with great technique. Lacked a bit of pace but seemed to have everything else going for him.
I think Norman Whiteside was only 27 when he retired,he wasnt too bad at the soccerball.

Bridges is now plundering goals for the Newcastle Jets in Oz. Not an easy league to score goals in.
