“Going on Twitter and telling Danny Dyer you think he’s a cunt seems fine to me. Even — to be completely honest — even drunkenly tweeting him you’re going to run over his legs with a truck”

If you read that you should probably read this. There is a question of journalistic integrity also at play here

 - dare to express a different view and they shut it down

A warm welcome to new commenters who have read and respected the commenting policy, and who appreciate how this unique community works.
A few new commenters (whose comments have been deleted) seem confused about this space; it is not a place where we argue about the basics of feminism. There many are other places on the internet for that.
So if you are composing a comment that (for example) argues that sexual jokes are harmless, and even compatible with a diverse workplace, or that someone subjected to said comments is obliged to be NICER about it, or something similar, then you are not ready to comment here.
Are those weighty expectations? Yep. Does it make it difficult for casual readers to drop in and comment? Yep. We’re fine with that. If you prefer a different kind of commenting space, best wishes on finding one that suits your needs.
(And no, we don’t argue about moderation or debate the rules of the space. If you’d like to complain about it, there is a whole internet out there. And a
complaint line!)
ETA: Thanks again to those who have commented productively. We’ll be closing for the night

Nothing wrong with taking a tough stance on moderating every now and then. @Rocko does it with racism and David Forde threads on here. As a feminist I am offended by your rolly eyes smilie, please withdraw

are they referring to a different article because sacco isnt mentioned in the guardian article ?

That’s the point I think. The piece you are reading now is not the same one that appeared initially. Edits had to be made, particularly in the Cyber conference story because the whole story was not being told. It’s still a pertinent article but seen as this is the Decent Journalism Thread I figured some balance might not go astray.

absolutely i agree with you on the balance side of things, however the apparent censorship of the comments on the shakesville side makes their bone fides doubful

I had to do half a day of “anti-terrorist training”, thrust upon me by one of the organisations I work for. Picture a rotund version of Liam Gallagher in a stab vest “So, if someone comes towards you with a brick, what do you do?”

That has the hallmarks of a threatened by a lawsuit article.

never knew you worked in manchester airport duty free

Some days art, I wish I did.

the moderating on here is top notch in fairness.
its just as well i dont take offence to lads calling my wife a sand monkey and a smelly arab, lads like @Mac have great banter making nasty jokes about kids with special needs as well, i presume infractions are handed out for this type of shit… its an interesting dynamic tho, i almost caused a forum shutdown when i had a bit of banter about lads been sent to prison but yet youll have photos of a posters Mrs or his home address sent around by PM and nothing happens…
