Needless to say, I will have the last laugh as Iâve done many times before. Bomber has been vindicated in this thread, the chickens have come home to roost with regards to Mythi.
Heâs known throughout the continent for his performances in the Scottish Cup?
Yes, not positively either.
Most Irish people are probably familiar with this on their holidays abroad:
âYou Irish???â
âYesâ
âRoy Keane???â
âYesâ
âHe guy who destroyed by bin man in Scottish Cupâ
âYesâ
Keane was an excellent passers of the ball. He was technically sound for that level and would do well in any era
His leadership was his best quality though.
stick to the bogball mate
Keane was a poor leader as the way his tenures with Ireland and Man Utd played out. For those who point to his success, both teams continued to excel without him.
+1. They both actually improved without him. Ireland nearly won the 2002 World Cup in his absence but failed to qualify for Euro 2004 when he returned. Manchester United reached the pinnacle without him, winning European Cups in 1999 and 2008.
In qualifying with Keane Ireland defeated The Netherlands, drew with Portugal twice and Netherlands once.
In the finals Ireland drew with Senegal and Germany, defeated mighty Saudi Arabia and lost on penalties to a Spain side that only finished the game with 10 men.
You have a weird outlook on âimprovingâ,
Germany were World Cup runners up.
Spain were cheated out of a semi final spot.
Portugal got knocked out of the group stage.
Ireland definitely improved without Queen.
Matt Holland > Keane?
Much of a muchness.
The Netherlands were just after a Euro 2000 where they lost out on penalties to Italy in the semi final.
Germany got hammered in the final, got to the final by defeated such football heavyweights as Paraguay, the United States and South Korea along the way.
Portugal were cheated out at the pool stages by having two men sent off against hosts South Korea.
The Dutch couldnât qualify and clearly Germany and Spain were better teams than Portugal who topped the group. You have a weird outlook on improving.
The Germans beat USA who had beaten Portugal.
Germany & Spain > Portugal & Holland
Keane footballing ability was completely underrated due to his ability to intimidate and bully players. His first four seasons in the english top flight he played much further forward and was excellent averaging 7/8 goals a season which isnât bad. After this he tailored his game to suit the more attacking players like Scholes, Giggs and Becks.
Ireland would not have qualified for the world cup in 2002 withoutRoy Keane. End off.
Every top club in the world would love to have a roy keane type. They donât care about peoples behavior as long as they perform on the pitch.
Keane only fell out with Fergie because he knew he was right. Keane called out Uniteds academy for being and shite and since then theyâve pretty much produced no top class players.
@Bisto hit the nail on the head when he likened Keane to a poorer version of Mark Van Bommel.
No dude.
The Dutch couldnât qualify for it because they couldnât handle Keane,
At best youâre trying to describe âimprovingâ as âdoing the sameâ but not very effectively.
What do you mean they couldnât handle Keane? It was Damien Duff who absolutely dominated the dutch that day and they couldnât get to grips with him. Keaneâs performance was completely overblown due to a tackle in the opening minute.
He did have a fine game at home to Portugal, credit where credit is due but his performance v Holland was completely over blown. For all the talk of his tackle v Overmars and Overmars went on to give Kelly a torrid time of it.
You just donât get football.
The Dutch couldnât qualify because they werenât better than Ireland or Portugal.
Van Gaal was outgunned by Big Mick.
Ireland achieved similar results against a higher calibre of team at the World Cup WITHOUT Queen.
Any chance you could tell us how they couldnât handle Keane?
Like when Keane completely switched off and didnât react to a 5 yard pass from Richard Dunne which almost lead to a Dutch goal early in the second half?
We completely rode our luck in that game with Steve Staunton and Richard Dunne just about coping at the back, the dutch missing 4 or five gilt edged chances and Duffer being absolutely magnificent as an outball continually getting on the ball and releaving pressure. We most certainly not dominating in the middle of midfield before or after the sending off
