nobody dismissed him on the back of leedsâŚit was just further proof that he was poor⌠I remember at the time with Brazil in 2002 he was considered the weak link in defenceâŚ
how did he crumble when pressure was onâŚhe scored some great goals when they were struggling in group games ⌠maybe its as simple as he just got tired as tournament went onâŚI think it totally ridiculous to judge a playerâs greatness and career over basically 3 matches over the space of what? 10 days?.
No. Itâs not. He visibly refrained from getting on the ball. He was their star man and when he went up against teams who werenât minnows like Nigeria, Iran and Bosnia he didnât want to know about it. Messi was in his third World Cup and didnât deliver when it really mattered. People want to excuse it are desperate, letâs call a spade a spade - heâs not a great and he lacks character.
Totti lasted barely half the 2006 World Cup Final. He was withdrawn after an hour of a match that went to extra time. He was withdrawn around the hour mark in most of Italyâs matches in 2006. Totti failed to score from play in all 7 of Italyâs matches in 2006, a wretched return from a supposed goal scoring offensive player. He contributed 1 goal from the 12 that Italy scored in that World Cup and that goal was a penalty incorrectly awarded against Australia after Grosso cheated and dived. Thatâs hardly winning the World Cup single handily for Italy.
In fact in 11 World Cup final appearances that penalty goal against Australia is the only goal Totti scored in a World Cup finals. This is a guy who has scored over 200 Serie A league goals and is second on the all time scoring list in Serie A behind Silvio Piola (goal scoring star of Italyâs 1938 World Cup win). Totti certainly had issues in delivering on the goal scoring front when it came to World Cup finals.
Totti has bizarrely been mentioned here in the same breath as Ronaldo, Pele & Maradona. Ronaldo scored 15 times in World Cup final matches, Pele 12 and Maradona 8.

Totti led the assist chart at the 2006 World Cup and was outstanding in the semi final against Germany where he played the whole 120 mins. He scored a last minute winner against Australia in the last 16 and assisted two against Ukraine in the quarters. This was after many had ruled him out of contention after he suffered a horrendous ankle break in late February. Lipping waited for him until the very last second and it was an inspired decision.
Totti has winnerâs medal and legacy secured. Missy doesnât have a grain of the huge character and personality Totti has.

thanks for going over the games maate but I actually watched the world cup myself, despite returning from injury he was majestic, i watch the Italy Germany game about 3 times a month and each time Im in awe about how well he played, so much better than anyone on the place, he sacrificed himself for the greater good in the final, the french team designated 3 players to nullify him and what they actually did was nullify themselves

why?
It shows who the real leader was.
Juan Roman Riquelme led the assist charts in the 2006 World Cup. Totti had three, Riquelme had 4. Totti scored one goal, a penalty.
Lionel Messi scored 4 goals this world cup and had a superb assist - he was involved in 5 Argentinian goals directly in 2014 world cup. Totti was involved in 4 Italian goals directly in 2006 world cup.

Messiâs challenge will be trying to be effective in a team that that doesnât rely on possession. His direct running for Barca was so effective when he was the only one doing it. Iniesta was of course well capable of gliding past a man but doesnât take the ball, turn and run at defenders the way Messi does. Zlatan was sidelined for him, which you couldnât really argue with on the basis of Messiâs subsequent form but jettisoning Zlatan hinted at a narrow tactical approach suiting Zlatan. [/QUOTE]
Zlatan presumably can be completely written off as a nothing footballer as heâs never scored at the World Cup finals.

has anyone noticed the amount of players looking away while mascherano speaks! âŚits nearly only a handful of subs who are looking at himâŚ
It was the final words, they were breaking away.
How ridiculous is this argument and how fucking stupid are lads trying to argue for Totti. Itâs beyond mental.
Messi IS a great

The guts and the glory. If Missy had the first he might get the second.
Obviously, the best Iâve seen anyway by a mile. And something that people are missing here is that its pretty difficult to do anything when the other team has the ball about 70% of the time and Messi still played well
is scumpot really saying that roque junior was better than baresi, ffs,
stick to the bogball mate
Maybe Argentina would have had more possession if Missy stopped hiding and worked for the team.
