A funny thing just happened. I’m sitting in my Beijing apartment recovering from an animal night out celebrating Man U, me scoring a 25 yard free and my birthday. It was a pretty rough affair. There’s four of us here and we all are suffering. About an hour ago I started getting a fairly bad dose of the spinnies and thought I needed to have a shit, such were the rumblings I felt. After a time the danger passed. A while later a few of the phones started beeping with texts asking if we were ok. Cos a 7.5 Earthquake just hit China. We soon realised that everyone of us had a separate “spinnies” experience. We all thought it was drink related and one of the girls went for a lie down to recover. None of us thought to mention it as we felt it was a sympton of our drink problems.
Quality stuff.
Happy birthday Juhy. In lieu of getting you a birthday present I bribed the referee in the United Wigan match for ya. 7.5 seems fairly high on the oul Richter though - any structural damage around?
7.5 seems very high for just a spinning experience. Must have been miles off from where you were.
1999, was living in San Francisco. The earthquake in Turkey happened, 10s of thousands die and it’s on the 6 o’clock news. Next thing the place starts rolling for around 10-15 secs; 5.0 earthquake centred about 10miles up the coast. Local news; forget the devastating tragedy out in Turkland, what were your experiences of a bit of a roll here in the Bay!! Shocking.
(I was actually quite scared but thanked my lucky stars I watched a lot of Simpsons. When Burns opens his slant mining factory to tap into the oil under the school, the old folks home falls into the ground - Grandpa shouts “earthquake” and runs to stand under the arch of a door, this is what I did!)
Think the earthquake was in West China so a few hundred miles from Juhy.
was in Los Angeles a couple of years back and felt a tremor there too. Not sure what it measured, but whole building just shook for about 10 seconds or so. Was in a hostel and loads of girls screaming around me. I was in the social area drinking a can of beer and wasnt really sure what the hell was going on. Lad I was travelling with was in the bedroom, and when I asked him later did he feel that, he hadnt a clue what I was on about and was panned out on the bed listening to music.
Happy birthday J
I’d love to be in an earthquake, I’d say it would be deadly
Epicentre was about 1400 miles away in a place called Chengdu(where the Pandas are). It just felt like a rolling feeling for a minute or so. Like being on the rocky things in the house of fun in funderland. There’s been about 6 aftershocks apparently. Buildings were evacuated in Beijing around the CBD. Lucky I don’t work…
You’d make a useless reporter Juhy. Where’s the carnage, the terror, the screeching pandas? Give us more colour and less facts.
Epicentre was in a mountain region and 10k underground. My suspicions were first raised of impending danger as the pandas had left the region in the previous few days having used their sixth sense to leave before the natural disaster. The quake was felt as far away as Thailand and Vietnam. Buildings did collapse and the death toll stands at 5 so far. There were some eerie creaking noises in our apartment. Word is that that region called togamble was to blame.
Christ sounds frightening? Would you say an air of panic gripped the nation? Was it something like you’d expect in a holocaust? Did the thought of nuclear power plants exploding cross your mind?
Thanks for all the concern there lads. The quake’s in the same province as I’m in. It’s at times like this you know who your friends are. Tinnion emailed to make sure I was alright (after first checking on Juhniallio.)
ClarkeyCat and Juhniallio are alright and that’s all that matters. Although it’s a pity one or the other of them, or maybe both, weren’t at least seriously injured. They would have made Six One News at a minimum with Bryan Dobson revealing that some Irish citizens were caught up in the mayhem and we might have had a grainy photograph or something. Maybe when you hit Vietnam or the Phillipines Clarkey…
Bandage, reports circulating on the internet that you flew into China today to discuss a possible loan deal with the Spitfires. Any comments at this stage?
You see lads, for those of us who are outside of the group of friends here, you should update your location so we know where you are in case of any more tragedies!
Clarkey, maybe the shock and all the pieces of buildings and pandas stuck in your beard are confusing you.
Mac, these are no friends of mine and I’m in Dublin.

Definite truth in the stories folks. You heard it here first. Another TFK exclusive.
I thought this Earthquake was just a matter of Bandage falling over in the shower
You’re definitely related to Flano or actually Flano as the stale banter siren just went off in my head and then I saw your post on the transfer window thread to hammer things home.
Was just reading that there’s around 10,000 dead after it. That’s a tad more than Juhniallio’s earlier report of 6 fatalities.

It’s up to twelve thousand now Bandage. It’s just a measure of how good my reporting skills are that I delivered the news when there were only 5 declared dead.
So you’re a good bit away then Juhy but whereabouts in the affected province is the other former TFK striker ClarkeyCat? Natural disasters are mad.
