Dion Fanning

If I thought Souness was generally interested in reforming Rangers then I’d have no problem praising him for signing Johnston or Walters. The simple fact though is that he signed Johnston to usurp Celtic and he signed Walters to go along with his policy of buying English talent and bringing them north of the border. Throwing bananas at Walters has nothing to do with the Ireland job so it is highly irrelevant.

I dont think it has anything to do with the Irish job either, but it has plenty to do with a debate about Celtic, Rangers and racism. Something which, in itself, has nothing to do with the Irish national job.

I wouldn’t want a racist in charge of my national team, no matter how good a manger he was

Do you really, honestly believe that Souness is a racist?

It is a terrible article and criticising Maloney is a bit silly, as far as I’m aware Souness himself was the first to mention his apprehension at the reception he would recieve as an ex-Rangers man. And not in a particularly morally outraged way.

He seems a bit naive about the Man U Liverpool thing aswell, I have heard people abusing and booing players at Ireland games due to their playing for these clubs on several occasions.

There is undoubtedly an Irish element to the Celtic-Rangers rivarly which is why I think it’s relevant to ask a guy who was caught up in that about his attitudes.

I’ve no reason to belive Souness is a racist, just making the point that it’s too simplistic to say that we should only look at someone’s pure football record when deciding who to manage Ireland.

Agreed on the rest though. It’s a poor article. It’s the implication that ā€œIrish bigotsā€ are setting the agenda that sticks out first of all. There is no agenda.

Miaow

Touchy touchy aren’t we!!!

That’s not how you spell touch!

A typical Sindo article.

It’s almost as if they have a machine that spits out the same tripe time after time once someone inputs the word ā€˜Celtic’ into it.

Again, it’s an article that smacks of being written by a 5 year-old and the funniest part is the attempted dismissive tone towards those who question Souness’ credentials. The Sindo stable generally tries to antagonise but this article doesn’t annoy me in any way. Instead it makes me snigger at this idiot for not having a clue. I can picture him sitting there patting himself on the back when he came up with the Galatasaray/Fenerbahce ā€˜comparison’. Clown.

He’ll have plenty of brass in pocket after this move, presumably.

Some amount of leg humping at the start of this thread. Reminiscent of grahame Taylor and his sidekick :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
