Does whiskey go off after its been open for a bit?

Lads take the most aromatic, flavorsome whisky they can find and then dull the shit out of it with ice. Might as well be Johnny Walker red label

Terroir is the environment something is produced in, which adds a distinctiveness to flavor.
Spuds grown in the foothills of Slieve Aughty for example.

:joy:

I dont have a very sophisticated taste in whisky.

Like: caskmates stout. Teeling small batch. Green spot

Dislike: connemara (really dislike)

Where should I go to next @Malarkey

On the Irish road?

Black bushmills.
Crested Jameson

Both about 35 euro.

There’s a Yank on YouTube there doing whiskey tasting of Irish whiskey he rated Connemara ahead of Green Spot and 12 Year Old Redbreast. Fucking moron

I am open to any suggestions. Above was just a basic guide to my taste. Is the connemara a ‘peaty’ whisky? I got a present of a bottle, tried it twice couldnt stomach it at all

To my novice tastebuds green spot and connemara arent even related they taste so different

Johnnie walker black is a lovely entry level peaty scotch that has some nice fruity notes to it. Its the definition of pleasant. Youd be off your head drinking connemara before it in my opinion.

There are 5 ir 6 oirish whiskeys that you simoly can’t go wrong with and they are all great value.
Crested, blackbush, caskmates, writers tears, black barell, teeling single malt. All below 45-50e.
One step up in term s of price would be redbreast 12 and green spot but there is no need to go to 60e for Oirish imo.

The auld lads in my local swear by regular Powers. In fairness it is a very underrated whiskey.

Don’t care for the peaty ones at all. I really like Balvennie.

Writers Tears.
Black Barrel

I’d be same as you. Don’t really know much about it and don’t like anything peaty but like those two

No bother. Love these queries.

Lots of people are the same as yourself on peaty whiskies. Just a matter, purely, of taste… Probably the most comparable topic is liking liver or not. I love liver and I love Connemara.

HBV’s advice is excellent and spot on.

Would only add: treat yourself to a glass of Bushmills 16yo some night in a pleasant pub. Would say this particular Bushmills might rightly be your thing.

Exact same suggestion about Tyrconnell Madeira Cask Finish. Give it a go in a pub you like at a non hectic moment.

Neither glass will break the bank.

Come back to me, if and when, and tell me what you thought. Would be interested on verdicts.

Is not whisk(e)y just a fantastic ecumenical subject?

Even for cantankerous opinionated shams like myself.
