Drugs in sport (and non sports)

I’d be thoroughly stunned if its not happening.

The gas thing is this sort of stuff is actually put forward by people involved in rugby as a reason to why systematic doping couldn’t happen. There was a discussion on Off the Ball on Saturday when Mike Ruddock and former Munster player Johne Murphy poured cold water over any possibility of doping or systematic doping. They actually cited the Harlequins case as supporting evidence as to why systematic doping couldn’t happen. It was all “no doctor would risk their professional reputation” and stuff like that. Head in the sand stuff.

Well there’s a surprise.

Was never in doubt that they had a valid TUE and this story was a dud

The ethics around it a different story

Was never in doubt they’d find a valid TUE

Tis frightening wats goin on in the world

Here are the main points from part two of the McLaren report into doping in sport:

• More than 1,000 Russian athletes across 30 sports were involved in or benefitted from “an institutional conspiracy” of doping. The cover-up, which dates back to at least 2011, evolved into a sophisticated doping programme on “an unprecedented scale”

• Among a variety of techniques which went to staggering lengths, Russian officials added salt and Nescafé coffee granules to urine samples to make them match dirty samples and trick testers

• Vitaly Mutko, then-Russian minister for sport and now the deputy prime minister, is implicated via his department’s involvement, but there is no “direct evidence” that he knew of the doping programme. Vladimir Putin is not mentioned in the report

• The corruption at London 2012 will probably never be fully established but many Russian athletes who competed in the Games were part of the doping programme

• Prof Richard McLaren appeals for major organisations in sport and anti-doping to collaborate and “end the in-fighting”

The net is closing in on Bolt

What a misleading opening line to a tweet.

Second Deontay Wilder opponent in two months popped for PEDs. VADA now have a partnership with the WBC wherein all ranked fighters are to be enrolled in year round testing. Tests being failed left, right, and centre.

There’s also a strong rumour at the moment that both Furys are serving a drug suspension that cannot be publicly announced due to ongoing legal procedures. It’s a bizarre story. Both of them were popped for nandro by UKAD back in February of 2015, yet Tyson was still allowed to fight Wlad in November of that year.

The charging letters were not issued until June of 2016, with the hearing set for September, a full 18 months after the violations were detected. Tyson allegedly injured his ankle and withdrew from the Klitschko rematch on the same day the charging letters were issued. The Furys said that they were going to sue UKAD, and since then UKAD has said very little said publicly. Tyson Fury has not fought since November 2015. Hughie Fury has not fought since April of 2016.

The lack of transparency in UKAD’s dealings is shocking. A lot of similarities with what we’ve seen from both USADA and RUSADA. I have no doubt that the cunts have covered up doping violations by British athletes.

Tyson was falling round the place in didsbury the other night after a feed of ale. Roaring down a traffic cone last I heard.

Tyson is cute out. The UKAD investigation has been a complete fiasco, and he appears to have played them like a fiddle.

"Aschcroft was at pains to explain why Ukad does not discuss individual cases whilst the case is still ongoing. However, she explained that the board take into account mitigating circumstances that may totally absolve an athlete from responsibility, or adjudge them liable to a low or high extent. The degree of fault in negligence is reflected in the length of the ban; or no ban imposed at all, if the athlete was for example; suffering from a cognitive impairment.

The process of this reasoning is intuitively sound and denotes the fact that any evidential mental impairment suffered by an athlete during the period in question, amounts to the view that this athlete may not have been accountable for their actions. This latter conclusion will necessarily rely on irrefutable evidence showing the athlete to have been mentally unfit."
