All just picking up a bit of mileage, credit to them all. Mike has Laois roots, and shur Eddie is a half Laois man. Derek is taking it as a learning experience. If he can tame the madness thats in Laois, he’ll flake Waterford to half a dozen All Irelands.
I actually don’t get the backlash deano is getting tbh. He values his time highly, I’d say it’s fair enough. You don’t think it’s worth it then don’t get it. How much would a kicking session with sexton cost for example?
He’s the best free taker since Maurice Fitz, he’d probably make a few grand doing an after dinner gig, why not pay him a fraction of that to coach your free taker. You are probably paying your normal coach the same a session if you are at that level, and a 5-10% improvement in your freetaker could make all the difference
The big difference is its the first time (or one of them anyway) a current player is openly charging for a directly gaa related coaching skill. It is surely a breech of the amateur status or definitely a route to a way round it. what’s to stop a parnells member paying rock a grand a week as one of the players personal free taking coach and him transferring to play for them.
In the future we could see kildare hiring rock as a free coach con as a soloing consultant and Fenton as fielding advisor and moving them all down to naas.
I agree. Its no different to some 50 year old paying for a golf lesson. It’s still something we have never seen before and will lead to problems for the amateur status in the future. That’s inevitable though. This is just a clever way round it
Agreed. The GAA sanctioned this the day they got in bed with Sky. Inter County wiill be fully pro in a few years anyway, assuming he’s taking this seriously and not some handy nixer Rocks services will be looked upon as a sound investment then
