Welfare should have a limited purpose, take care of he needs of children and the elderly, take care of those who are physically or mentally impaired, and offer assistance during economic downturns. Handing out welfare to able bodied people in good economic times is self destructive, to the state and those getting welfare.

Pot bellied, hooknosed, blueshirt cunt, you mean.

Helping people in time of need, yes… Its purpose should be to get people back in the game or at the very least contribute to society.

It doesn’t. When generation after generation are reliant on the state for essentially everything, and have never worked or have no interest in working, don’t be surprised when they behave like this.
Remember everything is free, so nothing has value.
You truly are a champagne socialist.

if there were 100000s of people below the poverty line getting nothing their anger would be a lot more intense than 1 mild case of looting

Exactly. Giving free stuff to able bodied people sitting on their holes is very bad policy with very bad outcomes.
Japan is a good model, full employment, even if it is only bowing at an elevator door.

Let’s take the example of what happened when New Zealand slashed its welfare state in the late 80s and early 90s to show us whether welfare states encourage or discourage crime.

Then you look at the figures. The numbers in poverty (as defined by a 1972 Royal Commission) rose from 360,000 in 1990 to 510,000 in 1993, about one- seventh of the population. Between 1990 and 1993 notifications of child abuse and neglect have increased by 60 per cent. The suicide rates for young males, at 38 per 100,000, are now the highest in the industrialised world. The daily prison muster has grown by 10 per cent a year, to 122 per 100,000. (Britain, the keenest jailer in Europe, locks away 98 per 100,000). And crime rates have soared, especially violence and burglary. A New Zealander is now more likely to be the victim of a crime than a citizen of any other country in the industrialised world, including the US.

Checkmate, mate.

Why do you always come across as if you’re reading straight out of a Tory party manifesto from 1987?

There is literally nothing in that post which is not a nonsense cliche.

It’s not hundreds of thousands of people ffs, there are not that many hundreds of thousands in all of Ireland.
The number of people on welfare who should not be on welfare is likely in the low tens of thousands, half of them should probably be in prison and the other half offered jobs or no welfare.
Why does Ireland have such a problem locking up violent criminals?

id guess its because FG & FF are weak on crime
