I think they were really only on top though for the first 15 to 20 minutes, but in that time they should have made it count more. They let in Dublin for a soft goal, and kicked a heap of wides. After that though, Dublin more than broke even and were unlucky themselves with a few goal chances, and Kilkenny and Andrews leaving point attempts drop into the keepers hands. I think the gap at half time was about right in the general run of play.
I certainly dont agree with Taz though saying it could have been game over to Dublin at half time had they been winning by a measly 3 points!
If Mayo had of gone in 3 points down in the first half yesterday after throwing everything at Dublin they would have been mentally destroyed. Just think how devasting it would be to have a great start for 15 -20 minutes and then concede 3 goals be down by 3 points and the opposition are playing shit? There is no way they would have come back from that.
Over 40 seconds each can’t remember the amounts but if they were over 45 then it would be over a minute and a half and that’s close to 2 minutes. Close enough anyway.
But yeah the point is that they had 4 minutes of injury time and it was disrupted by fouling etc but it was incredibly naive to waste that time themselves. Everyone knows by now (because it’s been such a big issue in the last few years) that there is no added time for the time taken to hit a free. So you know the clock is rolling (or you should know it) and it’s nonsense to complain about that afterwards.
There is a rules issue that needs addressing though. I think it’s less about timekeeping and more about fouling. Mayo didn’t run out of time yesterday - they weren’t going to win if there was another 10 minutes added on.
Mayo deserved nothing from yesterday. A draw would have been very unfair on Dublin.
I don’t have much to add here except to say I thought Horan made a complete balls of it on the line. The decision to take off Seamie O’Shea, who to me was Mayo’s best player, was staggering. I also felt the substitution of Andy Moran, their best performing inside forward, was also ridiculous.

Fair play to Dublin though.
Agree on both of those. It was like he made those substitutions based on preconceived ideas about those players rather than what was unfolding on the field.
black card rule will suit Dublin as panel is so strong
If Dublin want it enough there is an opportunity to dominate for the next few years - 2 in 3 years - all the money and resources that has gone into Dublin GAA is now paying off.
If Dublin win next year I expect a clamour to split Dublin in two
Also his replacement Jason Doherty was known as a goal machine when he first came on the scene in the League about 3 years back and has done absolutely nothing since. In fact I don’t think he made an appearance certainly in the Donegal and Tyrone matches. Yet he is thrown in with five minutes to go in an All Ireland final and is expected to get the scores to win the game.

Don’t be daft. As far as I can see the whole thing is wide open to about 10 teams at the minute and a good few others could get near that level with some hard work.
Mayo bottled it the last ten minutes. Two points down, opponents with 13 fit players, they were right within striking distance. They were afraid to win.
They had one player in the full forward line for the last few minutes - Conroy, who is not a big man. What the fuck were they at?
They needed a big man in there, and somebody pig ignorant enough to not let their nerves affect them to win the breaks. Somebody like Conor Mortimer.

Mental and physical fatigue, but its still pretty unacceptable. Dublin were reeling with 5 or so minutes to go, allied to the 4 injury time minutes, thats 9 minutes to play and 3 points or so to get, it was definitely achievable, but they didnt have the tools to go about the task.
Re Seamie O Shea’s substitution, it was utterly ridiculous, but did he not carry some sort of injury into the game? Perhaps the injection was wearing off, Horan might deserve some small sliver of a benefit of the doubt there.

He is a club mate of Horan. The familiarity is what we all reach for when things are going wrong.
